I'm real new at this, but after several days of trying I'm posting this from my new OS X 10.4.5 x86 system... here's how I did it:

Installed 10.4.4 with Maxxuss-patched install DVD (posted on usenet by EqUaTe)

Followed maxxuss's 'alternative' instructions (updating directly in 10.4.4)

(it froze at 50% optimization, but I booted the DVD and started up with -s rd=disk0s1, then fsck -fy and mount -uw /)

To get it to recognize my D-Link DWL-G510 as an Airport card, I had to change the card from en0 to en1 as described here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?s=...indpost&p=40054

Then I set the AirPort settings for my school's wireless network, and rebooted.

I don't understand a bit of it, so I probably can't be much help to any of you (although I'm happy to try), but it works.

My system:

ASUS P5P800S Motherboard (LGA775 socket, 848P chipset)

Pentium 4 3.21GHz

1.5 Gb DDR

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

NEC DVD-RW ND-3520AW

Logitech USB WheelMouse

Microsoft Natural PS/2 keyboard

D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.:)

SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

60 Gb HD running Windows XP

120 Gb HD: 30 Gb partition running Tiger 10.4.5, 80 Gb partition with my iTunes music, accessible by both XP and Tiger.

Much thanks to Maxxuss (of course) and everyone on this board for the tips!

Hello

Congratulations. I hope it will work for me.

I just wonder what did you mean when you write

"it froze at 50% optimization, but I booted the DVD and started up with -s rd=disk0s1, then fsck -fy and mount -uw /"

Is it for the security update or the 10.4.4 to 10.4.5 one?

and last question (i'm really newbie) : the command you described, you put it under the terminal or during boot ? Have you execute the entire update fromthe dvd boot ?

Thanks for help
