Mike3mike3mike3
I've thought about Macs for years. Never wanted to spend the money. I have a bit more cash these days so I think I want to try one out. I looked up that Open Computing Mac clone. Looks cool but I mat want the real thing. To make a long story short, I would like to try out the Mac software on my Gateway Laptop before I go drop 3000 on a pc. I have a Gateway MX6426 laptop. It has an AMD Turion 64 Mobile Tech ML-40 2.19 GHZ, 1 GB ram, a ATI Radeon xpress 200M video card 64 MB, as for the rest Im not so sure about the motherboard and the rest of the chipsets, Can anyone reccomend an image with all the correct drivers so I can DL and burn to pop 10.5 on there? There are lot of packages floating around here and Im not so sure as to which one is right for me, My fiber comes in next week and Im so amped up the DL a distro and see how leopard looks, never even used a MAc before, just so sick of playing with spyware and malware apps, i love that so many apps are available on MS but c'mon, these trojans and stuff are just pout of hand, any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/105040-mac-newbie-advie-on-gateway-mx6426/ Share on other sites
jedavis1
I had a Gateway with the 200m chipset... it worked, but no hardware acceleration on the video. Best that could be done was to have native 1280x800 resolution. Not the best in the world for "testing" out the Mac OS. Mike3mike3mike3
That is the resolution my laptop is currently doing, so that would be great now if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction as to what software packages I need?
