Preference pane problems

Hello all, I'm running 10.4.3, 10.4.4 and 10.4.5 on different partitions, same drive.

 

In 10.4.3, I can select any of these partitions in the startup disk preference pane and reboot, fine.

 

In 10.4.4 and 10.4.5, I can select any of them, but upon hitting restart, and then restart again from the dialogue box that appears, there's a beep, the restart dialogue disappears, and nothing happens.

 

 

Everything else is fine

 

 

 

Any suggestions
