Sound works but no alerts?

Just installed Kalyway 10.5.2 and updated the kext to support my sigmatel 9221 chipset. Sound seems to work perfectly, both iTunes and Quicktime play audio without a problem. However, from the Sound control panel I can't play any of the alert sounds. Here's the weird part- I can double click the aiff files from System/Library/Sounds and hear them but the CP itself won't play them. Any ideas?
