Hi All:

After lurking for weeks and noticing that others have successfully set up OSX on the same model laptop as I have, I've decided to jump in and try to do it too :)

I'm a strictly Windows guy in the past with ZERO experience on Unix/Linux or Mac altho I do manage to create partitions and multi-boot with DOS and more than one XP on most of my systems (can't trust having just ONE operating system...)

Anyway I've downloaded Kalyway & Leo4Allv3 already and both DVD's burned and APPEAR to be bootable (altho I've only gone to the first stage to test them, did not actually try installing anything yet) and I am about halfway done with iATKOS r3 download now... just to have it in case it's needed.

SO: my question is WHICH VERSION is best for my model laptop? I'm planning on picking up a new HD just for this project IF it's installable as a test on my current HD in the system (backing up now so I can try it, then restore my current setup later and install again on the NEW HD)

Anyone with this Toshiba (M115-S3094) with HELP or ADVICE or TIPS in advance, please get in touch with me and point out the pitfalls/alligators... before I hit 'em! ;)

Thanks a lot in advance: let the adventure begin :D

P.S. I understand from reading other posts that pretty much everything on this laptop *should* work, except for the built-in WiFi and the card reader? I don't use the card reader so that's no biggie but HOPEFULLY someone will solve the WiFi driver (Intel 3945) soon???

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all... I'm back and bumping this topic with some news.

After killing my laptop (Toshiba M115-S3094) after a bad BIOS flash (arrghh), buying an identical one on eBay with a bad video LCD (but good motherboard), taking both apart and putting back together ONE working laptop again... I finally installed the most recent iATKOS version OSX on the spare HD that came with the broken laptop.

And it worked! Wow... real Apple OS running on my Toshiba...! Heheh... kewl... :thumbsup_anim:

BUT NOW, questions questions. Hope y'all can help me make this even better.

1. Still no WiFi for this onboard from Toshiba, huh? Any progress on getting that working anywhere? Another OSX86 build perhaps? Kalyway?

2. Cooling fan stays ON all the time: do I need to patch/hack something else for better power management? How do I do that?

3. During the setup I just clicked thru all the defaults and it basically *worked*, but what (if anything) should I choose to disable or enable for this model laptop in the Setup Options to make things work better?

4. Video and Sound seem to work fine (surprised!) but there is an occasional 'screen write' glitch on the video. Dunno if I need to choose better video drivers or a different kernel, or ???

Well that's all for now, I suppose, but I'm sure I'll have a ton more questions as I get deeper into this. Fun stuff :)

P.S. Thanks for reply above re: installing on external disk *but* I'm not actually going that way, just setting up on the normal internal HD for now, dedicated full 80Gb SATA drive to this project for now. I'm keeping my other WinXP/DOS/Linus multiboot hard drive totally separate and just swap out the HDs when I wanna play with the Mac stuff. For now. I'm sure I'll wanna eventually integrate an option for booting OSX to that multi-boot setup hard disk, but... first things first... ;-)

  • 3 months later...
