alien2xx
Ok, doing some testing this is what I did so far...I took the hard drive out of the laptop and connected it via external USB and installs but.. 1.- OK, I have a external USB DVD drive which I use to install Leo4Allv3 runs the install and it sees the hard drive connected via USB then I partition it and format it... 2.- I plugged the hard drive externally via USB. 3.- I was able to install Leo and it boot up just fine from the USB drive once the installation has finished, everything is perfect! (except for the video (only 1024x768 for now).. everything seems to be working ok, it found the NIC, Sound, etc... Now, I take the hard drive and place it inside of the laptop again, it tries to boot up, runs Darwin but after awhile of loading stuff it tells me "waiting for boot device" and stuck right there.... If I take the drive out and connect it again via USB I can boot just fine again to Leo... I read that this message may be a primary partition problem but if that was the case then it should not boot either when connected via USB right? What else can I try? any suggestions? why it can boot just fine from USB but not when the HDD is installed inside the laptop? Thanks for any help you can suggest... alien2xx The DVD never sees the hard drive when its inside the laptop. I have tried Kalyway 10.5.2, iAkosr2 and r3, and Zephyroth 10.5.2... all the same result... kiyasmom
No suggestions, just wishing you luck. Pavilions, in regards to OSx86, I am finding are a pain in the arse. I would give ANYTHING to get this dv8110us running natively. alien2xx
OK!! SUCCESS!!!! I have it running now, I am actually typing this on the laptop.... I Had 10.5.2 Mac4Allv3 installed running as a external USB drive - did not recognize internal DVD or IDE controller. This is what I did just in case you guys needed as reference, I wont take all the credit since there is so much information everywhere... putting together is another story I saw this post (Thanks Zappadoc): http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...AppleOnboardATA I downloaded AppleOnBoardPCATA.kext version 2 (attached) and fixed, cant remember wich post I got it from since there are so many, the one I am posting already has my laptop's id 0x59551002. Since this kext file did not work for me I had to add my device id to it... this is how... NOTE: I was able to install Tiger 10.4.8 on this machine and recognize the ATA controller, I then took the information I needed, Device ID (0x5955) and Vendor ID (0x1002) from System Profiler. Put them together as "0x59551002". Boot up 10.5.2 external drive: 1.- I extracted the file and right click to show contents, I used BBEdit (included on Mac4Allv3) and edited the file Info.plist. 2.- Looking into this file I saw other ID's listed but not mine so I aded it first on line, now it shows like this - see string section-: </dict> <key>ATI IXP PCI</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.driver.AppleOnboardPCATA</string> <key>Hardware Vendor</key> <string>ATI</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>AppleOnboardPCATARoot</string> <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> <string>0x59551002 0x43761002 0x43491002</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <string>10000</string> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCIDevice</string> </dict> <key>NVIDIA nForce ATA</key> <dict> 3.- Saved the file. 4.- I used the new file on my system by replacing it this way (taken from Zappadoc steps): - launch Terminal with sudo -s + password - cp -rp /AppleOnboardPCATA.kext /System/Library/Extensions/ - check the permission: chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleOnBoardPCATA.kext chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleOnboardPCATA.kext - remove AppleGenericATA and AppleOnboardPCATA.kext from IOATAFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/ if any - Remove kext cache: rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Caches - rebuild kext cache: kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ - reboot When booting I press to other option and I did boot: -f (to force new caches) And when booting this time I see this lines which I never saw before...!! and it gave me a hint that now I can see may ATA comtroller: AppleATIIXPATA: ATI SB450 (CMD 0x170, CTR 0x374, IRQ 15, BM 0x8418) FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8032 PCI now active, GUID 653f0200e464417d; max speed s400. AppleATIIXPATA: ATI SB450 (CMD 0x1f0, CTR 0x3f4, IRQ 14, BM 0x8410) Got boot device = IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/IDE@14,1/AppleOnboardPCATARoot/PRID@0/AppleATIIXPATA/ATADeviceNub@0/AppleATADiskDriver/IOATABlockStorageDevice/IOBlockStorageDriver/SAMSUNG MP0804H SAMSUNG MP0804H/IOGUIDPartitionScheme/Untitled@2 Bootup all the way, I was able to see my internal DVD drive now... I sutdown the PC, I took the external drive and then I placed it inside the laptop, I booted and WOW!!!! it running now... :-) nice... Dont forget to do a "Repair Permissions" after all this... Only 2 things I need to do: 1.- I have 1024x768 resolution I cant make Katana to work (I tried version 2c (does nothing), version 3 (it hangs), and version 3a4 (does nothing). 2.- Be able to inject this new kext to the DVD so it works from install.. working on this next... alien2xx
my Quote: "2.- Be able to inject this new kext to the DVD so it works from install.. working on this next..." Hi, How do I inject this new kext (AppleOnboardPCATA.kext) into the DVD? I waisted about 20 DVD's and still I cant get it... It boots from the DVD but always hangs and it does not continue... any suggestions here???? I follow this steps from here: http://osx86.wikidot.com/how-to-s#toc3 but the last step (#5) always gives me some erro and it does not work... so basically I do: For Leopard OSX 10.5.2 1. hdiutil attach "leopard.iso" -readwrite 4. it opens the iso on my desktop and I Remove the Extensions.mkext file. 3. Added the kext I needed in the Extensions folder. 4. Fix the permissions on the newly added kext. 5. Recreate the mkext file that way ----> kextcache -a i386 -K /Volumes/"my opened image"/mach_kernel -m /Volumes/"my opened image"/System/Library/Extensions.mkext /Volumes/"my opened image"/System/Library/Extensions 6. Eject, then boot. I also tried kextcahe -k /System/Library/Extensions Any suggestions here? can I add that option on the Leopard setup maybe? or just automatically installed? Thanks alien2xx I also tried to create a clone image from this drive to another and it goes just fine but the new drive never gets to be bootable (why?), it boots if I have the install dvd in the drive but without it I just get a blinking cursor (I tried to flag the partition and I get the same).. I also tried to partitioned the new drive with the DVD first and the loading the clone and nothing.. I am using CCC... I tried creating a .dmg image first and also from hard drive to hard drive... any suggestion on this one too?
