Hi!!

I am an noob in the world of Mac-on-x86, so I registered in this forum. I live in Brazil, so, my english isn't the best...

Ok lets start.

Looking at the internet, I have seen an application called BootCD that can build Mac OS X Live-CD's. But I don't have an Mac OS X to run the program!!! So, is there any pre-built Live CD or DVD image of the Mac OS X that I can burn and run it on my x86?

Thanks,

Barty Bacon

Welcome to the forum!

Probably the best thing for you to do is decide how you wish to approach this.

What this would include is the hardware available to you, and if this is going to be a full time thing, or a part time thing.

Then read, read some more, and when you are sick of reading.......keep reading!

I did a quick "junk" build here:

That will give you some kind of idea what is involved.

In my mind, it is more a case of not straying too far from the original, and making sure I am using components that are "known" to work, rather than trying to re-invent the wheel.

Thanks Reveeen!!!

My hardware is this:

Intel Celeron D 2.66GHz

512MB RAM

NVidia GeForce MX4000 128Mb (Installed by me)

Samsung 12x CD/DVD Burner

80GB HD

I Think I need more memory but memory is cheap so that's not a big problem buying it.

I have seen some Mac OS X screenshots and videos and I get curious about the system. My idea is having an Mac OS X Live-CD/DVD, so i can test the system and if I like it I can install it on HD.

But that's the problem: I can't find an Mac OS X Live CD/DVD!!

So, thats why I am posting here. If anyone knows about any Mac OS X Live CD tell me how to get it.

And I think I need a lot more reading :P

Well, ok, the motherboard details are kind of important (or the type of computer, and I'll look it up) some of the newer boards (that take a Celeron D) implement ACPI in such a fashion as to be very disagreeable with OSX . Your video card is not really supported (you need at least a FX5200 for a quick full featured install of Tiger), ram should be around 1g in total.

I do not know of a "live CD" , if you are just trying to get "your feet wet", so to speak, you surely can find a 10g hardrive you can slip in for "trying before you buy" (the install without printers, or language packs is under 5g.

If you search at the pirate place by the bay, maybe using "Mac OS", and checking only the "applications" box, I am fairly certain I saw an OEM type disk listed there.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've found on this forum an image of an live-cd of Mac OS X using Darwin, but when it boots up it gives the error message (i'm not sure if is correct): /apple.com.boot.<something I forget> not found.

There's a program called BootCD that make boot cd's of the mac. Can someone try on a mac and put the link to the iso? x86 please!!
