Jezek
Hey I just wanted to get this straightened out. Ok so I have the 10.4.3 iso. It took like 4+ days to download. but now i realize already 10.4.5 is out. and now i have to download a whole other 4 gig file to update it? I just wanted to get this straightened out before I start downloading. So I download the 10.4.4 restore disc, then download the 10.4.5 patch from apple and do all this stuff that is listed on maxxus to it. is this correct, I just don't want to waste my time downloading something if I don't have to. R. Bear Helms
Apple is at least partly at fault here. They issue patches and upgrades that specifically only take "baby steps" - you need 10.4.3 patched to 10.4.4 and then it can be patched to 10.4.5. Since nobody really wants to work out the post-patch fix for 10.4.4 now there's an install DVD image floating around, the answer is basically yes. You want the 10.4.4 install image to perform an "archive and install" or "erase and install" onto your 10.4.3, then from there apparently there is a means to convert 10.4.4 to 10.4.5 without needing a separate partition booted to perform the task. Apple does have a 10.4 to 10.4.4 all-in-one upgrade, but thus far I've only seen it for PPC. Sneaky bastids knew their Intel owners would never have a retail release earlier than 10.4.4. Jezek
so once i download 10.4.4 iso i will not need the 10.4.3 iso? Can I install from the 10.4.4 dvd? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10316-1043/#findComment-64427 Share on other sites
Eggman
You won't need the 10.4.3 disc. However, the 10.4.4 DVD will not be bootable. You need to ask our little Chinese friends for a patch that makes it bootable. But, yes, after you find the patch, you can install it without 10.4.3. After you get 10.4.4 installed, you can upgrade to 10.4.5. Good luck! Eggman
It should be 4.7 GB, if I remember correctly... Then again, the 4.2 GB version could be the patched disc. I don't know though. Jezek
ok but since i already have the 10.4.3 bootable dvd... can i just install 10.4.3, and then download 10.4.4 on the mac. and then 10.4.5. or would that be a lot harder. im just thinking, if im going to wait 4 days for a download, i might as well be on mac os x. Eggman
Yeah. You could do that. In fact, I would recommend it so you can get away from Windows. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10316-1043/#findComment-64449 Share on other sites
