However, as a high school graduation present, I've got a budget to build myself a computer for the dorm. I plan to build this PC and purchase an Asus eeePC 2g for the classroom, etc. and just save files directly to the hard drive on the desktop computer. I'm looking for power, compatibility, bragging rights, occasional gaming, graphic and audio productivity, and general future-proofing. I've worked pretty hard on this Newegg wishlist, but I still learn new things about my parts every day. I want to be sure that I'm not making any poor decisions, so I thought I'd make a post here to get some help. I linked to the wishlist above, but I've posted it below too with commentary about each part. Parts >COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case -My friend recommended this case to me because Cooler Master apparently keeps quiet but very cool -- this one's got 3x120mm fans. Stylish, but not cheesy. >ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard -This is what Lifehacker used on its build and it looks like it's got all I need and more, especially after seeing that now even the Wi-Fi will be working. >EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card -I'm really not much of a gamer, but I think it's because I've never had the opportunity to game much. Maybe this will change things. >RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V 530W Modular LED Power Supply - Retail -The same friend told me to go Modular because it keeps things neat. >Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 -Hell yeah. This processor seems well-reviewed. >G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory >G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory -I want to be future-proof. Also -- I'm big into productivity (graphic design, music production) >SUPER TALENT INT-AIN1-C All-in-one USB 2.0 Card Reader -Self-explanatory. I don't know if it will work, though... >Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive >Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -I plan on doing a RAID setup. >LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model LH-20A1L-05 -Standard, I suppose. Although I don't think LightScribe will be any good? >M-AUDIO Revolution 5.1 5.1 Channels PCI Interface High-Definition Sound Card -It's in the amateur audiophile range of things and I don't want to stick with Creative. I'd get the Xonar if there were more support out. >Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound >ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler -I want to keep it cool, and maybe overclock too.
