baylorbear
So after two weeks of tinkering I finally got things up and going... with a few bumps along the way. Here's an outline of my box... Dual Booting Windows Vista & Kalyway 10.5.2 SATA0 = Vista IDE Primary = OSX IDE Slave = DVD Intel® DP35DPM w/Core 2 Quad Q6600 (Intel P35 Express Chipset) ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Graphics: GeForce 8400 GS NVinject 0.2.0 (running smoothly all resolutions - no tweaking necessary) Audio: Sigmatel STAC9271D (onboard, working after minor tweaking) NIC: Netgear FA311 w/ RTL8139D (popped it in, started working right away) NOW... I popped the NIC in this afternoon. It was the last thing I got working. The system ran smoothly for about 2 or 3 hours (never rebooted) then crashed. At least to the best of my knowledge it was a crash... I've never used a Mac before this. Basically this slow creeping shadow swept over the screen followed by a little box saying "You need to restart your computer." (At least it wasn't that friggin Blue Screen-o-Death) Rebooted. Came up just fine. Runs a few more hours uninterrupted... then... back to that creeping shadow and the restart message again. What's this all about and how can I stop it? knewsom
That's what's called a "Kernel Panic". Do some searching on it, there are a number of things that can cause it. Most notably, some motherboards with IDE will crash the computer.
