First look here and compare the list. Your system uses an intel celeron processor and is derived from a real Pentium

processor. You selected the Vanilla kernel that will not work. Vanilla kernel will only work with Pentium processor.

here is the link:

http://www.behardware.com/art/imprimer/607/

So at pre-installation choose a patch kernel.

At the pre-installation don't choose specific Nvidia drivers you can do that afterwards by doing a post-installation

of specific drivers. At that time you can try to chance to another kernel.

I hope this will help you

Which patched kernel, and how do I do that? I am a total noob at these things! Lol!

Thanks for helping!

I have no experience with the distribution you uses. But i have used the Leo4All v2. In that version by default a speedstep kernel of NatKas is used. I did a default install with Leo4all v2 and installed flawelessy. After the default install i chanced

the system by installing drivers for graphics card, sound, wireless card etc. Everything is now working on the system.

My next system will be a native Apple Mac computer. OSX is by far superior than those of the competitors.

So i would try the Leo4All v2 distro first.

I'm using Kalyway's 10.5.1, do you know of a patch for that? Only I don't really want to download something all over again...

Thanks!

Hi,

I noticed some strange thing in your OSX setup screen.

You selected to install ATI drivers, why??

Did you place an an ATIcard seperatedly after you bought your computer, if not you selected the wrong drivers

HP was selling your system in two flavours. One with the integrated intel 915 chipset graphics and the other one with

an Nvidia Graphics.

What you can try is to install OSX with the kaleway dvd without selecting any other kernel. I assume a patch kernel will be installed instead. Leo4all installs also a default patched kernel when you select nothing during the pre-installation process.

Maybe this will work.

I'll try with the SSE2 System.

Mine has the NVidia card, it was a coincience that that one was selected (think i was seeing what they all where at the time. i would normally choose nvida (desktop). Is this the right or wrong one? shud I pick the normal nvidia?

Hello,

It is the Nvidia Desktop you have to use, but do not select anything. I have also a Nvidia card but when i selected

to install these drivers during pre-installation the installantion went wrong and halted.

I did a clean installation again without selecting anything. The installation could then been completed successfully.

After the first boot in OSX Leopard I customized Leopard by installing the drivers I needed.

There is a tool called Invisibles 1.5. I found that tool in the application directory of OSX.

With that tool you make hidden system files visible. You need that tool to make the files on the OSX Kaliway DVD

visible. On that DVD is a directory called packages in which also the drivers for your Nvidia card can be found.

Select the package by clicking on it and the installation will take place. Use Invisibles 1.5 afterwards to hide system files again. But information about these topics can also be found on this board. Searching this board will certainly help you. You can register Invibles 1.5 for Free. It can be neccessary to register because when you use Invisibles in unregistered mode a few times it will not work anymore. You have to register it when you want using it.

Maybe this is the beginning of a succesfull installation.

Invisibles 1.5. Got it.

OK. I'm gonna try installing OS X Leopard with ONLY the drivers for Bootloader GUID and SSE2. See what happens.

Do you think I should use GUID or MBR? Which is better? My Macbook is GUID, so I thought I should use that.

Will comment on success/unsuccess of install.

Thanks,

James

Results - A fail. Hmmm. I'm now gonna try MBR instead of GUID. But keep the SSE2.

Will comment again on those results.

I cannot give you advise what is better GUID or MBR, because i am searching here at this board what is the best

solution. For now i'am very confused about this topic.

I have installed it on MBR bases on its own harddisk.

My system has two HD's one for WINXP Home and one for OSX leo4all v2 leopard using the Netkas 9.2.0 speedstep kernel and disabled Sleep mode.

I'am dualbooting from the Windows XP boot.ini and is working very good.

For as i understand now dualbooting from a GUID hd is only possible when two OS systems are installed one the same guid

HD using PC EFI v8 and a guid partition.

At the moment a have a instruction here that says that i can install PC EFI v8 on MBR HD.

The manual prequisites are

1- OSX Pre-installed and bootable

2- A HFS+ formatted usb stick named bootloader

3- Mac OSX Tiger/Leopard install DVD

I fulffill on all above points but i don't try to install PC EFI v8 because other messages on this board are quit confusing me.

issues a read after installing PC EFI v8.

- Partition Not Active (no booting anymore)

- Kext files to replace or to remove first, otherwise causing system hang.

- No more booting via Boot.ini WinXP you can only boot into XP via Boot option menu of your BIOS at startup.

- I found no manual in which is warned to remove certain files first or to replace.

I hope some guy her at the board can make this clear ones and for all what to do and what not when installing PC EFI v8 on a running system.

Furthermore success with your installation.

MBR installs successfully, but I can't boot the system. I press F8 and select my Harddisk, but it takes a while then boots the installation disc. I selected Utilities > Startup Disk, and my Startup Disc is not recognised. Argh!

Ah well. Forget Kalyways. I'm downloading Leo4All from a bay full of pirates, and it is at 1.08GB of 3.42GB, and the average download speed is 1.4kbs, so its gonna take a while. I'll post later about my installation, as you sound like the guy who can help me with that if I get stuck.

Thanks for your help so far.

James
