ExpressCard N1 by belkin or USB dongle N1

Hey all,

I was really curious if anyone knew why it seems like my USB 2.0 belkin N1 wifi dongle is downloading/uploading faster than my expresscard N1 from Belkin. Both are working in a hackintosh HP DV9260NR - it detects the N1 as a wireless airport device and i get the icon on top and fits into the expresscard slot but the speeds are almost 1/2 to 3/4 that of the USB 2.0 port. It baffles me.... I would have thought the USB 2.0 would be slower than the PCI Expresscard.

By the way, I'm using Kalyway 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 combo update with all apple installation updates and running the vanilla kernel 9.2.2

Using PCpitstop.com, the USB dongle can get 12400 or 12200Kbps... and the N1 PCI Expresscard gets 8000Kbps or 9200-9500Kbps from the same test site/distances... uploads are also affected.

Shouldn't the Expresscard be faster in throughput? Maybe it's a motherboard issue/driver issue... but i'm not sure which one to replace. I'd prefer the expresscard but if the USB dongle is faster, I'll just keep and use that one.

I'm using both of these devices because my computer has the intel 3945abg wifi built in and doesn't work... and Using this in conjunction with the Applie wireless N timecapsule.

Any input would be grealy appreciated.

You mean you have an ExpressCard WIFI adapter that works with Leopard? I've been looking for one to avoid having a huge USB dongle sticking out of my PC. Is it ExpressCard/34 or /54? And it comes up in the taskbar at the top with signal strength?

yes, it is an ExpressCard WIFI from Belkin.. the one from D-Link works as well, just tested it out... taskbar comes up with signal strength.... but the throughput is only 130Mbps, not the 300Mbps it should be... like the apple website says. It's as if it were the same speed as my old 54g card or just a tad faster.... the USB dongle is still much quick. not just sure why the Expresscard doesn't show up as 300 Mbps likeit should... any suggestions?

I'm not sure why the USB would be coming up as faster, unless maybe it really is. But I thought the whole point of ExpressCard was added speed over USB 2.0.

I looked at the ExpressCard on Belkin's site, and didn't see any OS X drivers available. Does it just work out of the box, or do you manually have to find drivers?

Also, what's the model number of the DLINK card?

What are the odds? I find this post literally a day after I placed an order for an ASUS WL-167G USB adapter. :)

Anyway, thanks for the info.

belkin n1 and the d-link dwa 643.... Both work right out of then box and the reqosn the pci one was slower is I think the bus limit was 133 mbira but not sure why... And theusb one was set

at 0, go figure... Think in going to return the PCI versions and keep the USB.... Belkin USB dlmac drivers

found somewhereoon the net and the PCI expresscards worked right out of the box without an upgrade
