A very simple question.

Is there a way to configure the keyboard layout other than the System Preference applet?

I installed the 10.4.3 on two boxes, with very similar mobos (Asrock P4Dual-915GL and

Asus P5GD1-VM).

The first one went well, and during the configuration process i was asked to type the key

close to "Shift" key. I got a working config, that perfectly matches the italian keyboard

i'm using.

During the second installation i got a crash before any question about the keyboard,

i had to restart the system and i found myself in the need to choose the right keyboard

from System Preferences.

Even if i choose exactly the same keyboard config ("Italian Pro") i get a screwed up

layout, with NO backslash key: instead i get the "<". And when i type the "<" key i get

nothing at all.

I suppose it's a common issue, with Mac users using PC keyboards.

But i couldn't find an answer on this forum, nor doing a quick google search.

Is there a way to start again the configuration process that is launched at the end of the

installation?

If not, anybody knows where can i find the config file?

I would be an easy task to overwrite it with a working one.

Last possible solution:

for USB mouses and trackpads configuration there is USB Overdrive, any third party

app that takes care of keyboard config?

Thanks

  • 8 months later...

I've the same problem, with italian Keyboard on a Sony Vaio laptop.

It seems to me that the keyboard is recognized as Not ISO, and so it doesn't have the "<>" Key on the left of the Z key.

I've tried using third party layouts but with no luck.

Anyone have any suggestion?

Thanks

Stefano
