Hi,

I was able to get through the install perfectly, but upon reboot it freezes and I get the message "still waiting for root device". I tried disabling the USB and Firewire controller on the motherboard which got it past the points where the kernel was loading the drivers for USB and Firewire, but then froze at another spot with the message "still waiting for root device".

I tried booting with -x with no success. During the installation I never chose any options as to which graphics card, sound card, kernel, etc. I wanted to use. Did I miss a step? Is the IDE HD the issue? What can I do to get things running, and which options do I need to install to get the system to boot?

Thanks.

Here are my spces:

AMD X2 3800+

MSI K8N Diamond - NVIDIA nForce4 SLI

1 Gig DDR-400 Memory

Seagate 80 Gigabyte IDE Hard Drive

Radeon X800 Graphics Card

Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-bit

Gigabit Ethernet (via Marvell 88E8053 controller)

Ralink 2500pci Wireless Card

long story short: yes, you missed a step. I had this issue just yesterday. What i did was to reinstall but before installing select the customize button. After that you should look for 3rd party software in the drop-down tree and pick out what stuff you need.

I haven't actually got my system to boot to desktop, think i have an issue with the ethernet driver but thats beside the point. You can select the entire 3rd party section to install all of the drivers if in doubt and it will still get you past the 'waitnig for root device' error.

Cheers

So after trial and error, I tried installing the old Nforce drivers and it booted up just fine. I missed the "customize" button at first, but figured it out after erasing the HD a couple times.

I can now boot into Leopard perfectly, but have no sound (Azalia Audio checked), and no wireless internet(ralink 2500pci), and need a driver for my ATI X800 graphics card. Any help would be appreciated

Yes, the old Nforce driver was the only option I selected from the tree list, and nothing else. My Radeon X800 PCI-E card doesn't look to be supported so I guess I'll have to buy a new graphics card. In the meantime, how I can I get my SB Live soundcard (integrated on motherboard) and my Linksys WMP54G (ralink 2500) PCI card working?
