Ok, so after installing 10.5.2 and using it for a month or so I've come to the conclusion that I made a mistake with regards to partitioning my main drive and it seems impossible to fix as best I can tell so what I'd like to do is take my current installation and migrate it to another partition on another drive. I'm currently backing the system up using timemachine for the first time but I'm a bit uncertain how to proceed once it's complete. If anybody's got any advice I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Dan

Prepare your target drive with pc_efi_v8 to make it bootable, then use Disk Utility, CCC or SuperDuper to restore your working drive to it! Remember to unmark the format/erase HDD when doing the cloning as it is already done during the preperation!

Before checking back here I attempted what seemed like the most logical thing (and apparently wrong). I used time machine to back up my drive used the kalyway disc and the "restore from backup" deal to move it to the new drive. It was successful, however, when rebooting it gives me a "bootchain error" I can only assume that this is because the partition is not bootable? Is there a way to make this change after the fact or is this not even what is the problem? If it's important I've got everything setup as MBR partitions.

Yes the space is still there!

Use pc_efi_v8 to make it bootable from your original drive!
