Ok i have a laptop and was thinking of installing the 10.4.4 os onto it to try it out. And i had a few questions before the go ahead. My laptop is a P4 2.66 with SSE2, SSE and MMX so i understand it is compatible. The next thing is if i completly format my laptop to install the OS X fresh and it does not work, can i just reinstall win xp without problems or not? Also is there any special way to format the hard drive or is a basic fat 32 format fine? How compatible is osX with other hardware, for instance my laptop has a Radeon IGP 345M display adapter, samsung cdrw/dvd sn-324f cd/dvd drive, conexant 56k AClink modem, lan-express IEEE 802.11 PCI built in wireless adabter. Basically how compatible is it with the computer you put it on outta the box. I connect to the next wirelessly through my main computer will i be able to do it outta the box. The last thing i wanna know is say i have a word doc on my main pc i want to retrieve from mac osx is it simple to do it through my network on a ntfs hard drive. Thanks to anyone who can help calm my fears of trying this out.

If you decide to go back to XP you can just wipe out the partition table on your hard drive and reinstall XP without any problems. I suggest making an image of your drive first so that you can always restore it back.

OSX uses the HFS+ file system not FAT32 but I belive it can read FAT32 filesystems. If you use Apple's Disk Utility to partition the drive it should be fine. If you plan on dual booting, you'll need to search around for more info on that.

It's about as compatible as the hardware on an iMac or MacBook Pro. Sometimes your hardware will work with an existing driver but if not, you'll have to dig around to see if others have gotten it to work with some tweak or hack. The only way to know is to try.

See above answer.

Since it is a CIFS share, you should be able to use SMB to access it just fine. Getting your wireless to work is another story though.

thanks theosg you mentioned
