JustinTD
**** LAST UPDATED 09.27.08 **** NOTE: This post assumes you have similair hardware and are using the Leo4Allv2 DVD Ok, here's the system specs: - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4ghz) - 3GB Crucial Ballistix RAM - Foxconn Mars Mobo (P35A chipset, Realtec ALC888 HD Audio, ICH9R SATA chipset -internal-, JMicron JMB361 eSATA chipset -external-) - eVGA GeForce 8800GTS (320MB PCIe) - 1x Western Digital 200GB SATA hard disks - 1x Western Digital 80GB SATA hard disks - 2x Acer AL1716 17" LCD's 1. On first boot after install, the infamous "Still Waiting for Root Device." The FoxConn Mars board uses the Intel P35 chipset, BUT, it uses the ICH9 chipset for internal SATA. During install, be sure to select the "ICHx_fixed_IODATA" option under available chipset drivers. In addition, I have noticed of verbose boot from the CD it detects a "VIA 8237 SATA" chipset, so installing the VIA & SB chipset option wont hurt to be safe. 2. No pretty graphical bootup once installed. Simple, in Finder navigate to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist and open it with BBEdit (comes with Leo4All v2). Remove the lines <key>Kernel Flags</key> and <string>-v</string>. While in here you can change the default delay on boot for options from 10 seconds to whatever, I personally use 3 seconds. 3. Once inside, About this Mac shows the Q6600 as 2.4 Ghz unknown. In Finder, navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/ and select Show Pacakge Contents on "loginwindow". Navigate to /Content/resources/English.lproj" and drag/drop "AboutThisMac.strings" to your desktop. Open it with TextEdit and find the line: ' "ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "%@"; ' and change it to ' "ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad"; '. Save the file and drag/drop it back where it came from overwriting the original file. Now look in About this Mac. 4. Not being able to see Windows Shares Open Terminal and type "sudo -s", enter your password to become root. In Finder, navigate to /System/Library/Filesystems and select "Gte Info" on afpfs.fs. There should be a heading called "Where" which reads "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpfs.kext". Note the missing "/" at the beginning. If this is the case for you, in Terminal, goto /System/Library/Filesystems and type "rm afpfs.fs", and then type "ln -s /System/Library/FileSystems/AppleShare/afpfs.kext afpfs.fs" ... this should solve that problem. 5. View the Kernel version and info. Open Terminal and type "uname -a" and it will give you the kernel info. 6. You get an error which says laptopdisplay.kext was not installed correctly Goto applications and open Kext Helper, open Finder and goto System/Library/Extensions and drag the offending kext file to to Kext Helper. Click the "Advanced" checkbox and enter your password, then click "EASY INSTALL" ... should fix it after reboot. **** 10.5.5 Update **** Using the Mysticus patches, follow his guide HERE and when you get to the customization, be sure to select the Kernel you want (9.5 Vanilla in my case), the CORRECT video driver (I used NVInject 320MB), the SMBIOS update, and I restored the audio/network using the appropriate checkbox (Just Restore) to the ones which came with Leo4All. PROBLEMS TO BE RESOLVED STILL 1. 3 Minutes of blank screen when booting after 10.5.5. update **** INSTALL DVD -> USB BOOT WORKAROUND **** Used diskutil to copy the install image from DVD ISO to partition on USB drive, booted with install DVD, F8, entered rd=diskxsx where the x's are the disk # and partition #, installed from there to a secondary internal drive. Doesn't solve the no DVD boot issue, but at least makes for a much faster install.
