My quad boot attempt

Hello!

Here are my specs;

Case: Antec P182

Motherboard: ASUS P5K-E WiFi

RAM: 2x2GB Transcend 800 (will be upgrading to 4x2GB Transcend 800)

Graphics Card: GIGABYTE 8800GTS 512MB (G92)

Hard-Drives: Western Digital 400GB IDE, Maxtor 500GB SATA

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Heatsink/Fan: Zalman CNPS 9700LED

DVD Drive: SATA 20x

Monitor: ASUS VW222U (22'')

Speakers: Altec Lansing VS4121

Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0

Mouse: Logitech (can find the model number, but it's a laser mouse)

And this is what I am attempting;

Quad-Boot

1. XP

2. Vista

3. Kalyway 10.5.2

4. Linux (I think Knoppix)

And here are the guides/replies that I am using to 'make' this happen!

Realtek drivers for RTL8187 chipset

http://rapidshare.com/files/66879937/MacOS10.4_Universal_Driver_1.4.5_UI1.4.7.zip

UPDATE: looks like asap18's P5KE fix script has some issues with leopard...

the network connections will NOT work properly until AppleYukon2.kext is deleted manually

you can find it inside /system/library/extensions/IONetworkingfamily.kext/contents/plugins/

I have updated the script to reflect this change, now the wifi works without issues.. just install this script (modified version of asap18's one)

http://rapidshare.com/files/67089602/p5ke_leopard.zip

2) When it comes to the part where you select a patched or vanilla kernel, assuming you installed the EFI option on the install DVD, choose the vanilla kernel and install. Reboot after installation and repair permissions with Disk Utility.

3) After that, you just install the Leopard Graphics Update from Apple which can be downloaded directly from Apple's site here. Mount the DMG and run the installer again, reboot and everything should be working. Repair permissions once again with Disk Utility

Note: You notice that multiple times I say to repair permissions, heres how you do it if you don't know how: Open the Disk Utility program from /Applications/Utilities, select your OS X volume from the right, and click the Repair Permissions button.

Hope this covers it :)

P.S. I'm being waaaay too nice by typing up the instructions myself for you rather than telling you to research :P

Users of the 8800GT 512MB who wish to use the GFX-EFI method:

So, wish me luck (and tell me if any of the steps listed above won't work)

UPDATE:

Got it to work (finally!) :D

Audio & Internet work automatically (didn't need to configure anything or install any drivers or kext)

:afro:

Now all that's left for me to do is :hammer:

Which means:

Install the 3 updates from Apple Software Update

Get the graphics card working/recognized

And(if possible) make it recognize my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU.

Then I'll be all done!

Can't wait!

Thanks for all your help! (especially ~pcwhiz)

I'll tell you if all goes as planned (with screenshots)

Thanks again :smoke:

PS: I will be this to my friends now: :yoji:

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello!

Here's an update;

All didn't go as planned :D

Having trouble installing GFX drivers: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=91755

I've gotten stuck at STEP 5.

When I rebooted I didn't get a chance to change it to -s

So I took out my DVD.

Tried again

Got the following boot error:

H00000000

  HFS+ partition error

So I put the DVD back in, and am now able to boot back into mac.

Please help me, at the very least to fix my graphics, and at most to fix my graphics and tri-boot problem.

Thanks in advance,

Panarchy

EDIT: By changing the boot hard-drive, I was able to boot into XP (vista had an error, but suggested I repair it with CD, I will try that later). So you don't need to worry about that problem anymore (I would still like to be able to chose between 3 or 4 OSs at bootup... but my main priority is fixing the resolution on my Mac partition)

So please help me with GFX, thanks in advance, Panarchy.

BTW: When using cd /Users/Chip_Panarchy/Desktop I got an error (I was able to boot into -s)

Please help me fix it.

PPS: I've been using this guide for my GFX drivers.
