Hi there.

This appeals to me as a windows techy nerd but so far i am like a sand pebble on the beach of Mac! Ie i Know nuthing about any macintosh stuff but want to try it out! Please give good help.

I have downloaded the kalyware dvd 10.5.2 for a pentium 4, with sse3, MB=ECS 661gx, 1gig memory. Sata hdd 186gig*2 available for clean install.

Problem as i boot from cd, darwin loader runs, past the next options (where i have read but cant really understand different kernels etc) I tried typing vanilla and boot: guid or mbr here.

anyway dvd appears to load, get, darwin, next step and see freebsd (as i know a bit of this) items loading, then video resolution changed like it recognises video and monitor higher resolution, then

i get USF:got boot device.................../iodvdBlockst

then

BSD ROOT:Disk 1s2 major 14, minor 4. and here it just stops. no more movement, seems locked up at that point.

If i boot and use -x when getting past the darwin loader it loads like windows safe mode, it appears to get past the all sorts of drivers (making losts of dvd head movement noise) till it gets to the

BSD ROOT:Disk 0s2 major 14, minor 4 message again.

Once i saw Jettisoning Kernel linker message, then same lockup. (after lots of dvd head movement noise)

Please any clues as what i should be following up? I removed the pci sound card, vga nvidia card, nay usb cable and went as bog standard as possible, same result.

Tried searching these forums as well as Google but must have no idea what i dont know so cant ask the right questions!

Last thought i had was the dvd download might be damaged which would explain something so i will now try the md5 test on the dvd. i did burn annother dvd copy at a very low speed and both dvd's had verified ok with imgburn in windows.

Thanks

Minsik.

ok by disableing the usb on the eCS 661gx motherboard it then booted. However no network or usb. also the hard disk which is an ata version appears in the sata section of the system spec program.

also only 1 cpu even though its a hyperthreading cpu.

well as least i have something working to play with.

I will start searching for fixes to these problems.
