Hello all,

I've got a little free time and succeeded to install my (so far) quadro-boot.(penta later...)

The following OS-es are on my Acer5220 notebook:WinXP,Leopard,FreeBSD7 and SAM Linux.

The remaining space will be for OpenSuse 11.0 (in june).

Unfortunately there is no extra primary partition for OpenSolarisbut if somebody knows the solution - I will highly appreciate it.

So let's begin:

Divide the HD (mine is 120GB) with Paragon HD Manager(or other tool):

pri1 15GB WinXP ntfs

pri2 13GB Leo fat32

pri3 13GB FreeBSD fat32 (later formatted to 165 during installation)

extended:

100MB /boot

14GB /

2GB swap (if 1 GB RAM used)

100 MB /boot

12GB /data_ntfs

xxxGB ntfs (data) data_fat32

xxxGB fat32 (data)

Note: I do not remember the xxx values but can be set according to your wishes.

1.pri1

Put on WinXP first - save with dos6.22-boot-diskette the mbr (via mbrwizd.exe dos program) (mbrwizd.exe /Save=xp.mbr).

Note: Probably most of the people do not have usb floppy but I presume it can be done also via usb flash. (not tried)

2.pri2

Install leo to pri2 - do not forget to choose the second partition of the HD; erase to Mac Journaled and choose mbr efi in Customize.

We can save the new mbr again (mbrwizd.exe /Save=xpleo.mbr)

3.pri3

Install FreeBSD to pri3.

Attention! First delete the whole 3rd partition and create a new type=165 (FreeBSD) partitionand later during installation create the /, swap, /usr and /home partitions. (inside the 3rd partition)

At the end do not chose any boot manager and install the freebsd packages (choose what you want).

Save the mbr (mbrwizd.exe /Save=xpleob.mbr).

4.Boot via dos6.22-boot-diskette and install the (SBM) Smart Boot Manager (sbminst.exe -d 128) which put it to the mbr of the HD.

After reboot you can set the booting to WinXP_pri1, OSX_Leo_pri2, FreeBSD7_pri3.

5.Last was the 1CD SAM Linux. Installation ok and boot via SBM is without problems.Put the linux grub to /dev/sda6 (/boot partition)!!!

6.I think there will be no problem neither with the OpenSuse 11.0.

Now I need to solve the "inter-os communication" (ntfs under linux, linux under freebsd, macdrive to winnxp, paragon ntfs for leo, updating partitionsin /etc/fstab inlinux alatt, ...etc.)

Next issue will be the bup/restore procedure for different operating systems. This is below.

Hope, helped a bit.Regards,bozon42

Hello all,

as I wrote I will try to perform bup/restorefrom my quadro-boot-os system.

What works:

============

With Ghost2003 pri1 WinXP bup/restore --OK

pri2 Leopard bup/restore--OK

(do not forget to set file type=AF and bootable option - with Paragon HD Manager vagy Gparted CD)

pri3 FreeBSD7 ---> not tried so far.

linux1 ---> not tried so far. (but I presume it will be ok)

What does not work:

================

It is known that Ghost2003 deletes the partition it restores the image to.

First I did a simple bup/estore from my Leo on pri (OK), and later deleted the pri2 with Paragon HD manager and performed the bup/restore (OK).

Problems:

1.WinXP and Leo does not see my DVD (Acer 5220 Notebook) - linux (SAM linux) does.

2.System does nto boot to FreeBSD7: HFS+ partition error.

(though boot flag set in smart boot manager)

i) Can somebody help me?

ii) How can I proceed with bup with Leo partition in DiskUtility?

I suppose it cannot be started from the pri2 itself (resource is busy error) and if booted via install dvd,

it cannot be saved neither to external usb hd nor to the logical (ntfs, fat32).

Any hints?

Thanks and regards,

Hello all,

when I uninstalled Smart Boot Manager - DVD is seen. (set the boot flag + unhide for Leo pri2 partition with Paragon HD Manager).

It seems FreeBSD did not start since I did not istall any boot manager before adding SBM. So I think that is why I have HFS+ partition error.
