socal swimmer
I downloaded a trial of VMware fusion (v1.1), and installed it (install went perfectly). However, when I open VMware fusion and then click "New", it gives me the spinning beach ball. I tried running "vmware" from command line, and here was the output: NTFS signature is missing. Failed to startup volume: Invalid argument NTFS signature is missing. Failed to startup volume: Invalid argument Here is the console log for vmware (launched at 10:48:58 , pressed "New" and it froze at: 10:49:18): Jan 03 22:48:57.414: vmfusion| Log for VMware Fusion pid=662 version=1.1 build=build-62573 option=Release Jan 03 22:48:57.414: vmfusion| Hostname=lewis-andersons-p35-ds3p.local Jan 03 22:48:57.414: vmfusion| Using log file /Users/lewisanderson/Library/Logs/VMware Fusion/vmware-vmfusion.log Jan 03 22:48:57.418: vmfusion| Msg_Reset: Jan 03 22:48:57.418: vmfusion| [msg.dictionary.load.statFailed] Unable to get information about file "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/messages/en/vmware.vmsg": No such file or directory. I will troubleshoot this tomorrow. any ideas?
socal swimmer
Ok I figured out that for some reason, the english language localization does not get installed. When vmware starts up, it tries to load a few files from "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/messages/en/". However, the "en" directory does not exist. I think when vmware is installed, it does not install english language support for some reason. Any ideas?
nevarrie
I have fusion installed on my MacBook Pro and it does not have the en dir and fusion works just fine. I am guessing the true problem is one of these lines from my log: Apr 22 21:49:09.818: vmfusion| UUID: Unable to open /dev/mem: No such file or directory Apr 22 21:49:09.948: vmfusion| Could not open /proc/net/dev Apr 22 21:49:09.948: vmfusion| SGMAC: XXX: SGHostEnumerate not yet implemented Apr 22 21:49:09.949: vmfusion| SMBIOS: can't open /dev/mem: Could not find the file Apr 22 21:49:09.949: vmfusion| VmhsHostInfoPopulateSystem: Could not get information from smbios to populate VMDB. Have you found any solutions? I think the problem is that it can't open /dev/mem. Maybe its cause it doesn't exist. hm, it doesn't exist. However, it doesn't exist on a PowerPC mac either (running 10.5.2). i don't know how to fix it. However, others have succeeded with Parallels: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry678760 (that was a thread I made after having a problem with parallels, and they worked through it). good luck!
