SMS not working after unlock

Hi

I just unlocked my new iphone to use it with my European SIM. I'm roaming in the US at the moment. After testing several options I've noticed I can't receive SMS. No difference, T-mobile or AT&T. It seems like it sends but no sign of life on the way back.

I found a wiki where somebody described a method to supposedly correct this bug with some arcane commands. To be honest, I'm allergic to the command line and even by just copying I wouldn't feel too safe about his method. His instructions are not precise enough for a command line boob like me and assume too much knowledge.

Is there anything a bit more user-friendly to get my iphone back in the SMS biz?

cheers

sol

Found this:

had the incoming SMS problem and solved after 5 days of studying.

Hope this will help all the people who are still stuck in the middle somewhere.

"and apologize my bad english too, i am doing my best"

Please do the following (MAC)

Use Terminal (on yor Machine)

1.)

type: ssh root@"your iphone ip"

2.)

-> type password (good, please jump to 3)

-> WARNING, (middle-man-attack)?... no worries

type: rm r /Users/"your_cpu_name"/.ssh/known_host

that will give you back your access to your SSH to iphone

again type: ssh root@"your iphone ip"

now type your password

OK?

3.)

on Terminal(MAC)

1- launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

2- bbupdater -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls

(not working for some?.. no worries again)

[for those bbupdater came up error, please type

cd /usr/bin

then run this "bbupdater -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls" again

OK?

3- bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep

(if the bbupdater of FLS is working, eep will work too "if you have it in your usr/bin folder"

after you see DONE

4- launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

now go back to main screen on your iphone

-> phone -> keypad

type: *#06#

the IMEI should change to something like 004999010640000 and the iPhone will not accept any SIM

Yes? If not.. start from 1 again until the IMEI changes and sim card won't load.

Now download and run anySIM again.

No signal after running anySIM???

go back to MAC-Terminal resign into your SSH iphone

type: launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Restore your iphone using itunes.. wait a little... your signal should be back and be able to accept incoming SMS now.

Good luck all

Cheers mate, that's exactly the post I was talking about. Unfortunately those types of instructions always leave me with more questions than answers.

I would be most grateful if somebody who has some time on his hand could give me a hand. I'll put my ?? in between the lines.

Use Terminal (on yor Machine)

1.) type: ssh root@"your iphone ip"

What machine? Computer or iphone? I suppose the computer where the iphone is connected to but when I try this, nothing happens...

2.)

-> type password (good, please jump to 3)

HUH??

-> WARNING, (middle-man-attack)?... no worries

AYE?

type: rm r /Users/"your_cpu_name"/.ssh/known_host

CPU name? What's that?

that will give you back your access to your SSH to iphone

What does that mean? Was the access lost in the meantime?

again type: ssh root@"your iphone ip"

now type your password

OK?

NO, not ok

3.)

on Terminal(MAC)

1- launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

What is this supposed to be doing on my Mac?

2- bbupdater -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls

(not working for some?.. no worries again)

What exactly is this bbupdater doing to the file?

[for those bbupdater came up error, please type

cd /usr/bin

then run this "bbupdater -f ICE03.14.08_G.fls" again

OK?

NO, not ok

3- bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep

(if the bbupdater of FLS is working, eep will work too "if you have it in your usr/bin folder"

ICE03.14.08_G.eep - File not found. It's actually nowhere on my Mac nor on the iphone.

after you see DONE

4- launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

now go back to main screen on your iphone

-> phone -> keypad

type: *#06#

the IMEI should change to something like 004999010640000 and the iPhone will not accept any SIM

No, it doesn't change anything

Yes? If not.. start from 1 again until the IMEI changes and sim card won't load.

No, the IMEI never changed

Now download and run anySIM again.

What is anySIM? The program i used is called 'Unlock'

No signal after running anySIM???

go back to MAC-Terminal resign into your SSH iphone

type: launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Restore your iphone using itunes..

Restore, in terms of 'download and install the latest firmware'? Won't the whole unlock process be lost again?

wait a little... your signal should be back and be able to accept incoming SMS now.

Sigh... :P it would be cool sometimes to be able to read certain tech people's minds.

;)

cheers

Ha! Sorted it out...

I found another Unlock.app somewhere (sorry, don't remember where exactly in my utter confusion and desperation to get this to work). This Unlock had a date stamp of the 13th of september as opposed to the one I used first which was dated on the 12th. However it seems like the two files are different apart from the date stamp.

So if somebody else runs into this issue, I would suggest to use the most recent Unlock.app you can find.

I started the whole unlock process over from scratch, ran this newer Unlock.app and all is hunky dory. Can send and receive SMS without any further command line hacks.

Yah man!!
