run OSX in QEMU

After I compiled the Linux version to run OSX on a SSE only CPU:

http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=5055

I compiled now the Windows Version:

qemuwin3ju.th.jpg

Download & unzip the attachment, put the deadmoo VMware image in there. Start OSX in QEMU with (change 256 with the amount of RAM you want):

cd path\to\your\OSX

qemu.exe -m 256 -L . -hda tiger-x86-flat.img -localtime

Then start OSX with this options (choose 1024x768x16 if you prefer):

qemu7tk.th.jpg

Notes:

- If you install the KQEMU accelerator it's 3-5 times faster else OSX will be slow (maybe not working with SSE only).

http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/kqemu-doc.html

- I found some bugs in Win version running OSX86 witch are not in Linux version.

- I've only tested the Win version only at one 1 PC (XP french, where I compiled it).

- It's the 0.7.2 sources compiled with the modifications described in the other thread.

- Try OSX86 this order: Install OSX86 natively, if it dont work install it in VMware, if booth is not possible (only SSE CPU) use QEMU

EDIT: changed a typo (cd \ until /)

Download it here:

That's what I was thinking: on a SSE only CPU the kernel accelerator module is not working. How fast is it without this on your PC?

BTW, thanks for testing.

i think pearpc is actually a bit faster. with qemu it takes about 5-7 minutes to boot and it is barely usable. anything else i can do to make it faster?

np, im always willing to try new things to get osx on my comp.

I don't know to make it faster on SSE only CPU. Maybe it's also possible to use Bochs for OSX86 (with some modifications) but I think the slowness will be the same.

New qemu 0.8.0 is out with USB support now:

http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/changelog.html

With the same modifications as for 0.7.2 it runs OSX86:

qemu080win5qv.th.jpg

Start with -usb for USB support.

Notes:

- Some bugs from 0.7.2 in windows are fixed: like "about this MAC" is working (before I can't close the window)

- It's faster when I install the kqemu kernel module (not working 'SSE only & OSX86")

- If I run a W98 system with dos games it's faster to use a the original qemu (without SSE2). For this config (a virtual P2) the kqemu kernel accelerator module works also on a SSE only CPU.

QEMU 0.8.0 Windows:

I had the same error as duktape. How did u guys solve that. I ried PearPC, but my pc :) up and I couldn't do anything. So it didn't work.

You reffered me from your other post here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=6088

So I tried to set it up. Remember I am running AMD Athlon XP 3200+ with only SEE. SO I'm kinda confused.

I just really want to put mac os x on my pc.

Thanks

What is exactly the problem? The deadmoo image should work directly with this binary, only if you install the kqemu kernel accelarator it don't work on a SSE only system (it's slower without kqemu).

How can i ley qemu boot from my dvdrom as image? I have tried the option -boot d or -cdrom e:\

but qemu asks for a file but i don't know which file i have to refer to?

In Linux:

-cdrom /dev/cdrom for access to real CDROM

-cdrom /tmp/cdrom.iso for access to an iso

In Windows

-cdrom c:\path\to\cdrom.iso for access to an iso

Use -boot d to boot from the iso/cdrom. I think there is no way to access the real drive in Windows (not 100% sure about that), use Linux if it is possible because the Windows port is still in the Alpha stage:

All qemu options:

Found out a way to boot from dvd using Qemo manager 2.1 then you can just select boot from original dvd drive and then it boots. Nevertheless wont get it working any further, just see the white aple screen and then it reboots. Or with -v i get the screen that it can't load driver for a device and also the network card ísn't detected corretly maybe i try some more later. Thanks anyway.

on thing i can see, is that the qemu processo suports XD(Execute Disable), so we have to boot with mach_kernel.sse2, right??

Thanks!

Has anyone tried the new accelerator?

Jäger: If you still have the QEMU set up in windows, maby you can try this out?

http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/index.html

I've tested kqemu 1.3pre with a qemu CVS snapshot, it don't work in Windows when I use a SSE2 qemu and want to start the deadmoo image. It's the same like before:it freeze and I have to restart the PC.

Any chance of qemu being able to boot my 10.4.5 install? I want to use the Mac OS Restore facility to "install" it to my pre-partitioned laptop hard drive, but I need to boot it inside a VM first. VMware does not work, and I like qemu better anyway, so... *crosses fingers* Is there any way around the "Cannot find driver for this platform: ACPI" problem? I've tried booting with platform=x86pc.
