Hello All,

Im new to the forums and I just got me a brand new shiny apple TV.

Here is my question:

I have some .mov files that I have captured with my digital camera and wanted to know if I can somehow add them to my iTunes library and stream them to my apple TV. Is this possible?

I copied the mov file to:

X:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\TV Shows\Camera\test.mov

I think my iTunes sees it, but my apple Tv doesnt.

Anyone know what Im talking about?

Thanks,

nakedfool

As far as I know you simply can't put the movie in the iTunes directory. Drag the file from it's present location into the iTunes window and it should add it to the libarary. After that both iTunes and the AppleTV should see it. When you drag the file you need to click on the file and choose "File -> Get Info" (Or hold "Control", or "Ctrl", and click, then "Get Info". Under the "Video" tab (it's one of the tabs) you need to change it from "Movies" to "TV Show", or where ever you need it to be.

Hi Luke_s,

Thanks for the info. I did exactly what you said.

It showed up in my "TV Shows" section of my iTunes library. My apple TV, however...didnt see it. I noticed that the movies and tv shows that I bought are .m4v files. Do I need to convert my .mov file (from my digital camera) to a .m4v file in order for the apple TV to see it ya think?

thanks again,

Try making sure they're in 640x480 resolution. Some of my custom video's in MP4 format didn't show up, and they were higher than 640x480 whereas the ones that did show up were in that res.

Another possibilty is it doesn't support .mov, which would be unlikely. If you have Quick Time Pro you could try exporting it to MP4.

Hey that worked. Thanks.

What resolution are the movies and tv shows that are purchased off iTunes in?

do you know of any good, FREE video converters out there?

The one that I'm using is found here, but it leaves a water mark after the conversion (unless you buy the full version)

If there are not any free ones out there, which would you recommend I buy?

Thanks again,
