so this is what i have at my disposal:

cooler master stacker case

a dead ncch-dl mobo :stretcher: .. but i think the 2 xeon noconas on it are ok?

620w server psu

ati 9600 agp graphics card (willing to replace)

3 sata drives (1 74gb raptor, 2 320gb seagates)

1 ide drive (and old 80gb..not crucial to migrate to new system)

3 GB RAM (184-pin ECC RAM (2 x 512MB and 2 x 1GB)) DDR400 (PC3200) (would be nice to migrate these to a new system!)

2 optical drives (MSI sata and an NEC dvd burner 3520A)

so .. i'd like to salvage as much as i can to build an osx86 mac...what would you recommend?

i'm not really sure if i want to build something cheap/moderate/crazy at this point, so recommendations of all kinds welcome! thanks!

everything looks good except for of course the nocona. Im pretty sure they have sse3 and for sure they have sse2 so you're good there. Whats socket are those nocanas? 604 or 771?

they're socket 604 and do support SSE3:

Intel Xeon EM64T 2.8 Nocona 2.8GHz Socket 604 Processor Model BX80546KG2800EA - Retail

and it looks like the psu can support any kind of mobo?:

OCZ PowerStream OCZ600ADJ ATX12V 2.01, ATX, BTX, SATA, P4 and EPS12V 600W Power Supply - Retail

so looks like ideally i need some replacement mobo that could accept the 184-pin ram i have now, and of course will do well with osx86.
