Hi !

I have a laptop with intel duo core T2050, with 2 Gb Ram, Intel 950GM and Intel high Definition Audio.

I have tried 10.4.7 as well as the 10.4.8 with sse3 (for 104.8 semtex kernel).

I have set up the sound card as well as the ethernet card..

I am experiencing a weird and serious problem.

When i push the shutdown button at osx, the laptop really shuts down.

I cant turn it on!!!!!!

Pushing the power button, a led rapidly flashes but no sound or sth. The laptop is really dead...In order to turn it on i have to pull out the cmos battery and then everything is fine. (it doesnt matter if i have it connected with power cable or with battery).

This is really weird since reboot is working fine!

Just to say....Windows installation works fine. The shutdown there works... (I can turn on my laptop after shutdown)

I cant understand why osx is behaving so weird...!

I can see at osx boot ACPI enabled (at s3). I tried with platform=x86pc but same results......

I have enabled usb legacy support in bios....

Pleaseeeee help me!!!!1 I am out of ideas!:D:compress:

what i have just disovered...

if i boot in single mode , then using "shutdown -h now" i can power up my laptop again.

But if i get in to the desktop then the laptop cant power up!!!

:compress::compress:

The only error i can see is "display: family specific matching fails"....nothing else...!

What is going on here?!

;)

In system profiler where it says for graphic adapter is says display:no display. However i can change resolution etc....(ci qe it says supported)

when i am at single mode and type

sh /etc/rc it loads the whole thing...

The "shutdown -h now" still works....i can power up my laptop again.

But in desktop mode (even from terminal) the laptop cannot be powered up!

I made some progress...I think..

If i start with flags -v -x (safe mode) then shutdown works beautifully.

But if i dont start at safe mode then shutdown works....but i cannot power up my laptop again unless i remove the cmos battery.

So this means that some of the kexts are fooling around the system?

After installation of 10.4.8 i have to remove the IOPCCardFamily.kext because if i dont i get a kernel panic.

Can this be related with my prroblem??

How can i find which kext is problematic with my system? I can see in System Profiler that every kext has at least a dependency error...

Intel Duo Core T2050 1,83

GMA 950

AC882 for audio

and Intel 3945ABG for wireless..

  • 2 weeks later...

One additional thing...

zikman, what iso install dvd did you download? I tried the one ending with "HOTISO". Now I'm downloading another two DVDs, maybe one of those will be functionng great.

And, what patches did you use? I also checked in the sse2 and sse3, but since that I've read somewhere that you mustn't do this. :\

Legacy USB is also enabled in my laptop BIOS.

However when i run ppc applications such as simicy 4 then it crashes...It complaints something about OPENGL framework... ( ___insanf not found)

Anyone else who is experiening this problem???

[...]i'm just wonder how u find out which kext were the source of your problem.[...]

I'm also curious about that, and now I have again a qeustion:

Did you someway switch off the second core in your processor via the BIOS? (It's important for me, because my BIOS is a {censored} version, and I cannot do anithingmin that, not even switch off the 2nd core)

kmarc: we have the same laptop...I havent disabled the second core through bios...Have your problem been solved????

osxso: Ijust went through deleting every kext each time....:)he he

Thats the way i followed in order to find the problematic kext ...

*caugh*

...

And what if I didn't have ACPILCP-something kext?

And if my laptop went bad, and after waiting for a long-long while now the CD-ROM won't work..?

I'm asking just because I deleted the kexts you suggested to delete them, but I didn't find the ACPI kext you said. I poweredoff, and then cmos-battery putting off, then reapply... and... My DVD won't work, PC during POST don't recognize it...

;):|:o

very-very sad.

JaS 10.4.6., with no working audio, and now without CD-ROM.

Try to search acpilcp.kext

There are some acpi-something kexts, so what if I removed all of them? Yes, then won't work the acpi functions. But for example, when I close the laptop lid, (as i think) it want to go sleep. But nothing happens except that I have to switch off, because the screen goes black. And what if I hve to switch off? Yes as you experienced, screewing, deleting cmos, waiting, screwing back... I am even not surprised that my laptop has more and more problems... It's a wonder that my datas didn't fly away yet ;)

And, I begin to be a paranoid, but now I booted Windows and wanted to have a break, with flatout2, and it won't work as earlier, I cannot play with it: its like a comic... 8-10 fps, and no more. What is happening with my laptop?

try deleting hda kext and hda controller kext.....

ok my sound card still won't work. so if i deleted these kexts i guess it will not work.

as i said i don't have the acpilcp-something kext. but i also think the main problem is with the acpi-handling.

and i already have drove all the 7 screws on the bottom :D

In /System/Library/Extensions:

AppleACPIPlatform.kext

IOACPIFamily.kext

You will not believe it!!!! It DIDN'T work. waaaaaaaaaahhh....

Now. I'm booting the install DVD and recopying the deleted kexts.

So either with -s there is a kernel panic, because he don't find com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform

Of course, I put platform=X86PC, and I rm-ed the kextcache-s, and repaired disk permissions....

So what can be wrong???? :D

Editing:

Now it's Mac again, but with the exts loaded:

So these are my kexts, and if I power off my laptop, I cannot powr on without resetting cmos, and neither works my soud card... :guitar:

Oh, what a llama I was.

I realized that not only under /System/Library/Extensions there are kext's but under its subdirectories, too. I found the ACPILCP kext and removed it, now works shutdown, I put all de screws in their place :thumbsup_anim:

Now when I close the laptop lid it don't try to go sleep (or it's because I installed insomniaX...?). That's great.

But I also tried to put sleep manually (by the sleep button). It don't go sleep, and I cannot do anithing only switch off, and then on. Sleep works under Ubuntu edgy - with default options. So I think I have to set something to get it work properly.

And I realized, that no battery monitor is exist on my system. I don't know what the batteries state is... But it is OFFtopic yet, I will find it on the net.

Of corse I attach my dmesg, -s-f-v_dmesg, and kextstat, -s-f-v_kextstat too.
