Parallels using native XP?

Hi,

I don't think I am the only one having this question, however I did not find anything in the forum. As the most I do have an XP System set up before osx has become possible for ordinary pc users. I do have osx 10.4.6 running on a seperate hd and dualboot via the boot.ini mod.

Is it possible to boot the native xp installation in parallels? How large is the chance to mess up the system? I do not know how drivers are emulated in parallels (never tried to install so far), so this might be a great problem, but in case the original drivers are used and not emulated it should be possible.

I really do not want a second xp install, I am really anoyed by the existing one (;-)) but a bunch of software is necessary which I am not able to avoid for my work.

Theoretically it should be easy to set up a "pseudo-install" of xp on a new virtual hd, and then just edit the boot.ini in this virtual one to the existing operating system. Afterwards there should be no prob to delete the second op-system.

Ok, nice if someone has ideas on this...

Support for physical partitions is scheduled as high priority according to Parallels' team. But even when it happens, it is not likely you can use the same installation to boot in both native and virtualized environments.

VMWare can boot physical partitions, but I had no success trying to use a virtualized installation as native. Windows couldn't even boot, it seems to be deeply dependent of low level device drivers that are installed according the detected hardware during setup.
