Maik-
My HD started dying so I just reinstalled my 10.9 system which ran stable for 2 years + now to a brand new toshiba 3 TB HD but I’m having trouble with partitions.I ran the Mavericks install stick, with disc utility I deleted the blank disk creating one volume (or so I thought) and restored from time machine backup.I have a running system now (starting up from my old clover usb bootstick) but I cant install clover to the HD - it installs to the main hd root instead of the EFI partition. I’m trying with the very old version 2999 - I just want the system up and running again quick exactly as before - but the trouble seems to be the automatically created logical volume group: Core storage made a logical volume I didn’t want, so the EFI partition is on a different disk.Heres the failed clover install log: Clover EFI installer log - Thu Jan 5 21:30:39 CET 2017 Installer version: v2k r2999 EFI bootloader ====================================================== /dev/disk0 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *3.0 TB disk0 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1 2: Apple_CoreStorage 3.0 TB disk0s2 3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk0s3 /dev/disk1 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: Apple_HFS Hurx *3.0 TB disk1 /dev/disk2 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *2.0 GB disk2 1: Apple_HFS KLEE 1.9 GB disk2s1 /dev/disk3 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *3.0 TB disk3 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk3s1 2: Apple_HFS Dreier 3.0 TB disk3s2 ====================================================== Backing up EFI files Backing up stage2 file /Volumes/Hurx/EFIROOTDIR/boot to /Volumes/Hurx/EFI-Backups/r2999/2017-01-05-21h30/boot Backing up /Volumes/Hurx/EFIROOTDIR/EFI folder to /Volumes/Hurx/EFI-Backups/r2999/2017-01-05-21h30/EFI Stage 2 - Written boot6 (x64) to //boot ====================================================== Installing RC Scripts ====================================================== =========== Clover EFI Installation Finish =========== ====================================================== And here ist diskutil output (disk2 is the usb stick, the rest should be *one* disk): i7:~ maik$ diskutil list /dev/disk0 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *3.0 TB disk0 1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1 2: Apple_CoreStorage 3.0 TB disk0s2 3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk0s3 /dev/disk1 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: Apple_HFS Hurx *3.0 TB disk1 /dev/disk2 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *2.0 GB disk2 1: Apple_HFS KLEE 1.9 GB disk2s1 i7:~ maik$ diskutil cs list CoreStorage logical volume groups (1 found) | +-- Logical Volume Group 856C33D6-F164-4CC8-8064-8E2139F8FB35 ========================================================= Name: Hurx Status: Online Size: 3000249008128 B (3.0 TB) Free Space: 0 B (0 | +-< Physical Volume EF576C5E-9EE6-4A99-8BB6-5F2C2145ADD0 | ---------------------------------------------------- | Index: 0 | Disk: disk0s2 | Status: Online | Size: 3000249008128 B (3.0 TB) | +-> Logical Volume Family 67DBEF2B-7D2A-404D-80A8-47FCB7ED8741 ---------------------------------------------------------- Encryption Status: Unlocked Encryption Type: None Conversion Status: NoConversion Conversion Direction: -none- Has Encrypted Extents: No Fully Secure: No Passphrase Required: No | +-> Logical Volume 5B48D2C6-B826-42A1-91A1-B9813D34F291 --------------------------------------------------- Disk: disk1 Status: Online Size (Total): 2999913455616 B (3.0 TB) Conversion Progress: -none- Revertible: No LV Name: Hurx Volume Name: Hurx Content Hint: Apple_HFS It says revertible: no How can I fix this? 0000-1248
Yeah mate, biggest HFS+ partition size (without corruption) is 2 TB. You can use a 3TB disk with OS X, but you will encounter lots of problems. Go ahead and format it so that it has 2TB and 1TB partitions. Reinstall OS X to the 2 TB partition and you should be good to go. Best regards, - Matt
Maik-
Cheers for the reply. Didn't expect disk size to be an issue nowadays ... will have to find some extra backup space & resintall w. 2+1 gb partitions.
