carlocav
Hi everybody I have a Dell XPS 8000 I would like to change motherboard because the one in my preassembled Dell xps 8000 has no AHCI mode and this cause me many problems when I have to update OS X. Can you reccomend me a cheap motherboard with AHCI for my computer that have a first gen i7 processor (i7 860)? The socket is LGA1156
Slice
Look your local market for ancient motherboards. I may say that AHCI implemented since ICH8 and must be on all recent Intel chipsets.
carlocav
Yes, AHCI is supported by my Intel P55 chipset but has been disabled by the producer (Dell). I don't want to take the risk to hack the BIOS.
Slice
So you have to buy P55 board from another vendor.

carlocav
Hi Slice. Alternatevely I have another Dell desktop, Inspiron 580mt that has a motherboard with the same socket as the one in my XPS 8000. Could I exchange them or do I risk that after the replacement nothing will work any more? If I exchange mobo do I have to reinstall the OS?
