Reon636
Hello folks, I've just had an old PowerMac G4 given, and since its hardware is pretty old nowadays, I decided to tear it down and modding the case. I don't know if I'll stick with the Apple's included hardware or go for PC hardware. Anyway, I currently have two little boxes containing the Speaker, power/reset/programmer (?!) buttons and a power led. So my question is, can I plug them into a PC motherboard? I mean, the speaker has 2 pins instead of 4, and the PCB with all the buttons and led has a 10 pin connector and a 10 pin wire. I tried to connect the 10 pins wire but the buttons seemed not to work and the led lighted orange. I'll give some photos so (unlike me), you'll be able to understand how the circuit works. Thanks! Reon636
the easy way for the panel is to add wires with a solder to each button Can't i use a 1pin to 1pin connector and connect the single pins to the corresponding ones on the motherboard? JahStories
yes probably, just look at the board and try!
Reon636
yes probably, just look at the board and try! I tried but nothing...Tought I only had to read the printed circuit... But some connections are hidden. I'll try all the combinations, feel like an alchemist Edit: i successfully connected the Led and Power Switch. Here are the connections. Base scheme: A • • • • • B • • • • • 1 2 3 4 5 Power switch: A3+B2 LED: A1+B2 (mind the polarity) They share the B2 pin, you can try using the B2 only for the Power Switch and connecting the A1 (for LED) to the LED+ pin. This worked for me. I don't know why the Led lights up even only with the + pin connected. Edit2: I figured out how to make the Speaker work, but not the Reset Button. The speaker has two wires. Base scheme: • • • • 1 2 3 4 Speaker: 1+4, if you can't ear any bip at startup nor with bip.exe (google it), try to swap the wires.
