For you it's better to use combo update as you can so replace kernel, copy necessary kext and so on.

But theoretically you can update with AppStore but only with Clover as it has LapicPatch for it(with AppStore you won't have ability to do necessary operation before reboot).

But I did not check it. But it should work like.
