severvip Posted March 10, 2013 Share Posted March 10, 2013 I've been wanting to do a hackintosh project for a long time, I've attempted in the past and failed. (Wrong hardware) Recently I came across an old Intel D915gux mobo. It has an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 ghz. From everything I've read it should be possible to get it working. I've attempted to do so with several hackintosh variants of Leopard. I have {censored} 10.5.5 iAtkox, iDeneb 10.5.6, and iPC. I also have a retail leopard dvd. But nothing I do seems to work. I'm starting with a completely clean HDD, I've used Disk Utility to format the drive. I then start the install process, but after installing nothing happens. The computer just continually restarts. Going on my 8th attempt here, and still no luck. From everything I've read it should be possible to get this mobo to work as a hackintosh. Somebody please help I'm at a loss. Correction to my previous post, I did get it to boot the other day. But not everything worked, and it would freeze when trying to sleep or shutdown, so I figured stupidly of me, I'd reinstall it. I used ideneb 10.5.6 the other day and thats what I'm trying now, but I'm stuck with endless reboot and I have no idea what I did right the other day. I've made sure my bios options are correct. cpus=1 -f -x -legacy platform rd=disk. Everything gives me the same results endless reboot. When using -v I get the following Loading Darwin/x86 Loading kernel mach_kernel Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4234670 Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4234670 LoadDrivers: Loading from [Extra/Extensions] LoadDrivers: Loading from [/system/Library/Extensions.mkext] Loading HFS+ file: [/system/Library/Extensions.mkext] from 4234670 Loading HFS+ file: [/system/Library/Extensions.mkext] from 4234670 And that's it, then it reboots again, and again. 3.14r2 Posted March 10, 2013 Share Posted March 10, 2013 There are two things to remember: You will need a patched kernel (original "vanilla" kernel WILL NOT work with P4 CPU) You will need an ICHx (most likely ICH 5) southbridge driver (in order for the OS to be able "see" the disk controller and all the disks attached to it) Some side notes. The on-board VGA (GMA900) may work in Leopard, but may not work in Snow Leopard. You should get a PCI or PCI-X (if there is such on the MB). Some Nvidia GF7xxx and up should work OK on both Leopard and Snow leopard. You can even get a retail OS X running on this hardware. If you still want to mess with distros, install as less additional stuff as possible (without VGA, Sound, LAN and other drivers). The first step is to get OS X up and running. severvip Posted March 12, 2013 Author Share Posted March 12, 2013 Well thanks for the assistance I finally got it working. Somewhat. Still got some tweaking to do. Mountain Lion would be nice, but for this computer I'm going to stick with Leopard. It's primary use is going to be to store and play my music. So I don't need the latest and greatest. My 975x platinum, with core 2 quad, will be next project. I know people have gotten Lion working on those, so I will try for that, and hopefully eventually get Mountian Lion working on it. We'll see. So here's how I got the d915gux mobo working with Leopard, just incase other people run across this old mobo and want to do the same. I don't know if everything I selected was absolutely nessacary but it works. Somewhat. Sleep shutdown restart all work. usb works. Video works. Ethernet doesn't work. But I haven't tried to get it working. Sound doesn't work either. Apparently there is a fix out there for sound, but I've got a soundcard which I will be using to fix that issue. I used ideneb 10.5.6 and the options I selected are below.
