HappyHackintosh Posted September 28, 2012 Share Posted September 28, 2012 There are threads that talk about Mountain Lion Black Screen Fixes for nVidia cards, but I have a MSI r5770 video card. I get a black screen the first time I boot into ML. For a fraction of a second I see the gray screen with the wheel then BLACK. I'm willing to install from scratch if there is a path to avoid the black screen problem. I have used the Tonymac86 install approaches thus far. I've tried most start-up options. I think I should go back to a solution that uses Chameleon. Please point me to a setup procedure that has a good chance of avoiding the black screen for my configuration. Or point me to any other posts that may work for my config. GA-P55a-UDL3, intel i5-650, 8GB OCZ 1333 RAM, ATI msi 55770 video, 750 w OCZ PSU, Dell Ultra 23"monitor [might it matter?], USB mouse & keyboard. I have DVD burner and USB drives to use for the install. I can install on a HDD or on my- not very fast OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD. I have heard that SSD has other ML problems. everdone Posted September 29, 2012 Share Posted September 29, 2012 One of the easiest, most flexible tools to use to create a boot USB, install a bootloader and manage kexts is the Digital Dreamers HackInstaller script. You will find it in his thread in the Tutorials section. It is contained in the first post to that long thread (currently version is 7.1). Read carefully that first post as he explains a lot on how to use the script and the process for installion. The script comes configured for a particular Gigabyte board with the kext folders containing kexts for that board, however it is very easy to change the kexts in the folders to match what is required for your board, mainly for audio and ethernet. The most important issue for you to get the 5770 video working is having a Simbios.plist file that matches your processor. Download Champlist and use one of the 'standard' Simbios files that closely matches your cpu. That file should be installed in the Extra folder on the USB installer and in your ML install. The org.chamelion.boot.plist in DD's script folders will work OK for install and initial bootup, you may want to fine tune its contents once the install is operational (use Champlist to 'adjust' contents). I'm not sure what the AGPM does-so I don't know if it is working normally in LION. Remember I can't get to ML. Things that work like monitor going dark after pre-set amount of time do work.
