You need a card with a supported chipset, most cheap cards don't have the chipset on them when sold and ethernet cards aren't very popular these days so your choices will be limited. Try a Rosewill RC-401-EX known to work OOB with Lion and reported to with ML but there's very little test data to go off for mountain lion.
Have you tried lyx2mac ethernet kext? IIRC that motherboard has a realtek81xx chipset so I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to get it working.
