Mac Pro or a PC?

Hello there. So, I'm a developer. C, C++, Visual Basic and Objective-C. Plus some website development and server administration experience, and freelance writing.

I have a PS3, but I like playing on a computer more. I intended to go into a hardcore gamer mode, but since I use Dell E6500, I can't upgrade the graphics card and so. It sucks..

I started learning Objective-C for few months, so I was in a great need for Mac OS. I tried to install hackintosh on my laptop ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=276288 ), I succeeded to install it on VMWare so far. XCode is very slow, although I'm sure that if I had more RAM it would work perfectly. So I'm trying to install it as a dual-boot, as I can't get higher RAM. This isn't the only reason. Graphics thing is too.

So I thought about one of 2 options. The first one is to save some money to buy a Mac Pro and install Windows on it, although it's pretty expensive. The second option is to buy a normal PC and install hackintosh on it. The first option pros are that Mac is supported perfectly and it would have better performance. The cons are that it's not supported as PCs are. The second option pros are the support, and that Windows would run perfectly so gaming would be perfect, but the cons are that hackintosh isn't really supported, and VMWare would "probably" not suit my needs.

What is the best option?

Buying a Mac Pro right now would be madness. It hasn't been update in almost 2 years, but the cheapest configuration, with low specs for 2012, costs more than 2 beautiful and powerful hackintoshes you can build yourself.

We don't even know if Apple is going to abandon the Mac Pro.

Oh, never knew about this. That's good information to know, Alessandro. Thanks for sharing them.

Anyway, I remembered my old PC, so I thought about using the same case and CPU, and just replace its processor, RAM and Graphics Card. Here are some photos

My MOBO is a d945gccr

Just how 'old' is it?If you are going for power and *considering* a power machine which does cost, you should go the standard route of Socket 1155 and an iSeries processor, Intel i5 2500K and above. The motherboard does not have to be expensive neccesarily..depends on what you demand it to do,how many DIMM's of RAM (and their operating frequency) you want etc,do you require USB3.0,eSata,DualBIOS,UEFI...You just can't whip in new parts in any 'old' hardware. There is the power supply to consider, can it push the graphics you intend to use and so on.Power graphics require additional 5,25 6-pin molex connectors..Just reuse the old case, yank everything out and make a new machine, that is my 2c.And about the parts,i can't give you an example since i ain't actively building these new hacks,Google OSX Lion Hardware Compatability List, check the forums and make a zero % effort machine that will work reliably with close to zero effort of installing OSX and getting it to run.Get an SSD to run one of the OS'es from, and one standard hard drive for storage, invest in some cooling and you will have a bomb for a fraction of the price of a Mac Pro.

I second .lostandstupid: build a new computer with a a Sandy Bridge-E (Six-Core, if you can afford it), or an Ivy Bridge.

The pics you posted are useless. All I can see is d945gccr which is an old mobo (about 5 years). I wouldn't waste money on that, its value is next to nothing.

That's good recommendation :) Thanks guys :)

So, I chose this http://ark.intel.com/products/52209 . Something affordable. Well, kinda...

So, what's the best MOBO with LGA1155 socket, that suits the case that works with

D945GCCR?

I need something with (at least) 6 2.0 USB ports and 3 DDR3 RAM Slots. Nothing higher, till now at least.
