Is anyone else experiencing Preview.app crashing on launch? It crashes if I launch it directly or if it is opened by launching a file (JPG, PDF, etc.). I have an AMD 6850. QE/CI is working.

UPDATE: I determined that something in my user account is causing the crash. It does not crash with freshly created user accounts. I deleted the Preview preference files and caches, but it still crashes...

UPDATE 2: FIXED! I had a broken "Mail Downloads" symbolic link in ~/Library. I deleted it, and Preview.app now works.

Here is part of the dump:

Crashed Thread:  0  Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000

Application Specific Information:
dyld: launch, running initializers
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib
xpchelper reply message validation: sandbox creation failed: 1002
Container object initialization failed: The file couldn’t be opened.

Application Specific Signatures:

I'm having the same problem with the same crash message for my login only.

My "Mail Downloads/" looked fine but I deleted the directory just to be sure and still have the issue.

Any other ideas what might be causing this ?

Thanks,
Eliot

On my system the Downloads directory was a symbolic link to an external drive. Removing this symoblic link, running Preview, and then putting the link back fixed it. Now Preview starts properly.

Here's what I did:

$ ls -ld Downloads
lrwxr-xr-x    1 user  user     30 May 22 21:11 Downloads -> /Volumes/Ext Mac HD/Downloads/
$ rm Downloads
< Ran Preview, then Quit>
$ ln -s "/Volumes/Ext Mac HD/Downloads/" Downloads

Now Preview starts w/o issue.

Others on the Apple Support forums are having similar issues and fixing it by recreating symbolic links.

I have just installed 10.8 and now I am having a similar issue. The crash report looks slightly different each time.

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (Code Signature Invalid)

Any ideas? I can't use Preview at all, which is extremely annoying.

I downloaded ML again and installed it, without transfering any files from my backup. I can't get rid of this problem which is extremely annoying. I've tried to repair permissions, delete the ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview folder, but without any luck. There are no .plist files in ~/Library/Preferences which I find a bit strange. I'm not sure it's supposed to be like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
