Is speedstep necessary?

Is speedstep necessary? Seems like a simple question but I wasn't able to find the answer searching.

If you run OS X on a notebook and you DO care how long it works on battery, then you NEED IT! If not, then accordingly not. At the end it is designed to reduce power consumption then IDLE (so reducing amount of heat released by CPU). It may by some part reduce your electricity bills (esp. in multi CPU systems) :whistle:

So it's up to you. IMHO
