Motherboard: EVGA x58 SLI LE 141-BL-E757-TR

CPU: Core i7 940

Videocard: ASUS 5850

Hard Drives: (2) 500GB SATA Drives (1) Windows 7 (1) Clean

Installer: Snow_Leopard_10.6.1-10.6.2_SSE2_SSE3_Intel_AMD_by_Hazard

(I dont know if this name is against the rules, but I want my question to be specific as possible so those who answer will know what I'm using. If I'm breaking any rules, please inform me and I will change this name to a proper name.)

I've searched through these forums on EVGA x58 boards and didn't understand anything at all. Let's just say I was illiterate to the following vocabulary that use;

"boot with"

"go into plist"

and so much more.

Let's begin

I went into BIOS and switch to:

AHCI

HPET: 64 Bit

F10: Save and Quit

In order to even boot the CD, I had to;

Press F8

Type: busratio=20

Don't know if it was right, but it was the only thing that worked.

If anyone has use this type of installer, there is a customize section that includes the updated ".kext" you can choose from, to hopefully suite your build.

Upon that step, I check in the following:

Package name: OSX.10.6.2

Boot Loader: Chameleon_RC3_PCEFI_10.3

Graphics: Graphics Enabler (has ATI cards upyo the 3800s and Nvidia cards going up to the GTX 280's)

Audio: None

Network: SKYGE

X11

Rosetta

Now in the "Custom" step during the installation there is a support feature, that fixes the "CMOS RESET". After a few times I've been getting this "CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR" and I decided to clean install again with that feature checked in to fix it. It only makes it worst as I can even get to the Profile (Picking Name and Password) feature of the installation.

However, I have made it to the Mac Desktop. The only 2 Problems when I get there is:

~Graphics

~Cmos checksum error

Everything else is fine, Ethernet, sound, internet, everything I need to be satisfied except with the following two.

I do go into S/L/E to delete:

APPLETVMCEDRIVER

VOODOOHDA

I was told to replace the "VOODOOHDA" with another file.

My only concern is the "Graphics" and he annoying "Checksum Error". I've tried installing a Beta Graphics Driver from;

http://netkas.org/?p=465

He explains that it worked, however his tutorial is very bland to say the least. Infact, I dont know if it's even a tutorial.

"unpack and install both at time,"

That did not stop me from trying as I was really frustrated.

So what I did was install the kext:

aty_init to (Drag and drop in) Kext Utility

ati5000controller.kext to (Drag and drop in) Kext Utility

It didn't work, I don't know why, and now I'm here. As for the checksum error, I am so lost with that too.

ati5000controller.kext That won't work on SL 10.6.2. Try SL 10.6.4 with Graphics update pkg from Apples website.

aty_init requires you to boot in 32bit to work...

Setup it up:

com.apple.Boot.plist

<key>Default Partition</key>

<string>hd(0,2)</string>

<key>GUI</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1920x1080x32</string>

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>N</string>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>arch=i386 busratio=20</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>2</string>

Yea, I read somewhere that 10.6.2 wont work with the ati5000controller.kext. However. I needed a second opinion just so I know what I was doing was right or wrong.

Also, in order for aty_init to work in 32-bit, would that mean I need to turn in BIOS:

HPET: 32-bit?

Or is that something totally dependent on the OS?

So I can just go to Apples Website and download/install the package onto the MAC OS I used? I would think I'll have to go through a verification or something.

As for the com.apple.Boot.plist, is that your solution to the checksum error?

Try this

"Also, in order for aty_init to work in 32-bit, would that mean I need to turn in BIOS:

HPET: 32-bit?" No Leave it 64 ..It really only matters if your DSDT is patched for it to work properly SL uses a type of hybrid 32/64 either way.Its only upon boot you need it to load the 32bit kext's right off the bat. CPU's power management stuff HPET ( so needed for sleep)

Apple doesn't check or ask you to go through hoops Compo 10.6.4 Update

Checksum error seems you might be missing a DSDT edit Try to fix

You can try updating your Chameleon with this one Chameleon updated with preferance plane in SL under System Preferences

Well, I'm on the MAC OS X right now.

First - I'm trying to edit the com.apple.Boot.plist, and it wont let me. I'm opening it through Text Edit and trying to "Save as" com.apple.Boot.plist in that same folder. But it's giving me that "You dont have permission". So I need help with that.

Second - Once I get through the .plist,I'm going to try and download the SL 10.6.4 Update and install it.

Third - I'm going to attempt #####, I know for a fact I'll have trouble so I'll keep you updated.

If I'm doing any of these in the wrong order, tell me and Ill stop and re-do it. Also, I'm going to try and do these without restarting my computer

Thanks Hangten for helping.

Sorry for the double post.

After downloading the 10.6.4 update and installing it. I had to restart. On boot up, it gave me a gray screen.

Kernal Panic...

Anyone else know what I did wrong? I made it to the seconds step of just installing it.

First- com.apple.Boot.plist you need to simply copy paste it to the desktop then change it and copy paste back and it will prompt you for your user password and thats it.

Second- Yes, install update but don't reboot install the right kexts's for graphics and so on to the S/L/E directory using the Kext Helper

Then after run this

Try jumping on this thread

The main issue is getting the reboot with all repaired permissions and the right kext's in place. Don't just update and reboot

If you can you should boot with -v to see where the hangup is? if the screen is blank or torn into pixels then its booted and its most likely just a graphics issue. If you wouldn't of been so cutting edge ha ha (6000 Radeon spotted already) then you would of had it easy by buying a card that is running with installs pre SL10.6.4... Shouldn't worry you will get it working.
