Have you got hardware acceleration (if dvd player opens & you can move pieces in chess you have)

Anyway how does it feel copying files, opening windows etc.

My mobo according to xbench & geekbench is slower, but its a hell of a lot quicker than under leopard

it also says I have a core solo but in activity manager the two cores are working.

I would not worry about what xbench says

hey dave.

not sure what to say now, kinda feels ok now... like something kicked in, i made sure i had acceleration from the start, profiler looked good, chess worked, but the UI felt slugish, so i ran xbench to see how it went, had comparable 3x lower score to comparable graphics cards, i was thinking something is not right... the tests looks kinda ok now, still lower than comparable setup, but the UI feels better, only OpenGL is still scary low numbers.

I too have some problems with the FSB and Ram speeds on this setup, i cant disable SpeedStep in bios, read something here... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31650 about a ACPICPUThrottle.kext wich lets you setup your cpu with the right speeds, maybe theres something in it.

Also wondering why Snow is running my 2.6Ghz on 2.2Ghz.. FSB is about 300mhz lower and the ram is 800mhz but running on 667Mhz...

There was a post yesterday about disabling speedstep, no answers though

this for leopard maybe it would work in snow

wonder if you could remove or edit the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext

Damm oh well maybe the speed throttler kext will work

wich one?

update;

for the geforce, i followed this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89001

got the gfx card EFI string and added it in the boot.pblist, removed the nvinject and everything seems snappy. really think that is the best option in adding a gfx card.

let me know if you find something about the 10.6 system throttling, or a way to get the system running on standard clocks. weird that theres no threads about a fix to that.

Sorry I lost the link, now I can't find it. It was in this forum, was for leopard. Was a speed throttler kext & you set it to max & it disabled speedstep

Yep efi string is my preferred method

this is over my head but see if you can make something out of that dave, looks like theres a speedstep application for that powermanagement kext

Seems like a complicated arrangement to do what you want to do, simply disable speedstep. Changes too many parameters of the system for my liking. (Like having application enhancer on your system just to have a clear dock when it can be done manually.)

Heres another link

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=119370

Its for tiger, on last page one for leopard. Again complicated for what you want

this clear dock btw. IMO don't ever install anything that needs application enhancer to run

I haven't got a laptop, but a friend is going to hackintosh has so will be keeping an eye out

one question tho, do i have to do some spesial routine to delete the kext from the system or am i safe with deleting the kext in finder, running kext utility and booting with -f?

i was thinking maybe the cpupowermanagement is still enabled... i dont see how speedstep is still enabled on the system after deleting the kext.

Thats how i delete kexts, move to trash, run kext utility

there is a power management bundle in library/systemconfiguration . You could try deleting that or see whats in it plist & edit & another plist in the resources of that bundle

good morning.

things are falling apart here, the nvidia EFI doesnt really work in Snow, now i get blue screens... putting nvinject back, think it has something to do with hdmi...

and all of sudden, my SnowLeopard partition is gone from Finder in both Snow and Leo, i have to launch the partition from Disk Utility.

third, i dont have any files in /Extra folder for the chameleon loader.... i just read up i should up new kexts and files here... so i got my self new files for a new install and i guess this is the way it goes, time for new install.

I have clean installed many times, luckily i have 3 external disks (one adapter) for backup. I can only offer moral support,am going to follow the post. Am sure others are more qualified to help, don't think I really helped here, but pm me if you think I can be of assistance

well, i reinstalled, with a little bit of more knowledge of how things works, it went better, concerning nvida, i think im set on using it how it was to start with, no nvinject and no EFI. use the chameleon option, it works out of the box and good for no. i think EFI is the way to go... but until i upgrade my system, and new nvidia plists comes out, im set with Chameleon GraphicsEnabler, profiler reports right values, screen resolutions are off but i know how to add custom ones...

4th day on configuring now, gotta take the system for a test and see how it is... thanks dave, ill be around.

Hi dekz,

Are you any closer to figuring out your issue? I have a similar problem (my current specs in sig).. After moving from Kalyway 10.5.4 to SL 10.6.0 / .1 (.2 breaks my wifi.. another story).... I noticed that the graphics were not as snappy in some parts of the OS. These in particular are - when time machine slides the desktop down (it stutters at half the frame rate) and when I right click in the side bar of a finder and load preferences, when I click between tabs, the window resizes vertically horribly slowly and stuttery... yet, when other windows (system preferences for example) change their window size, it is perfectly smooth.

I to have no idea where to start. Using tseug guide, with DSDT method, and tried using EFI method but am getting the same results. To be honest its enough to drive me back to 10.5. I cant figure it out myself, and this is the first thread I have come accross with a similar problem description.

Would appreciate anyone else offering advice...

PS: To clarify, chess, fast user switch, widget ripple etc etc all work... just random windows here and there that don't
