Adobe Bootlegger
Hey guys I'm a noob when it comes to this Mac on a PC stuff so please bare with me. I have a Alienware M17 not a M17x. It has 2 hard drives One that has Vista (sadly) and the other one free that I have been trying for the last few days to put Leopard on it (10.5.6). With the intention of upgrading to Snow Leopard. Now I have been taking the spare hard drive and putting it in the main drives spot to install Leopard. But I wanted to do was install it so I can load up the computer So it would have a dual boot so I can select which OS I want. But moving the hard drives each time won't bother me. But I have not had any success with getting it installed. I think I know a few problems not sure though. It doesn't help that I can't find out what motherboard or chipset I have along with programs like Aida 32 that didn't work. Then I thought about the computer being a 64 bit might be a problem. I'm not really sure. I'm gonna post the stats and add pictures from device manager maybe you guys can give a few ideas as to what I can do to get Snow Leopard to work. vincechan06
Hi Adobe, When you said you have not had any success getting it installed, what kind of specific issues you have? If you can described more about the process for your installation, people here can help you better when you encounter problems.
Adobe Bootlegger
Well I know I can't really install the drivers for the motherboard or the chipset cause I simply don't know what they are. Some drivers like Ethernet and sound are not there. Also it does install but when it restarts with the CD in the drive is just starts the process all over again even with -v -f. And when I take the CD out and restart it it goes to a white screen and a Apple logo and just sits there.
vincechan06
Are you trying to boot the Snow install DVD as it is? No.... it won't work. I assume you do not have any previous Mac OS like Leopard or Tiger right? I think it's better to install Leopard first before you start on your quest to install Snow, using one of the distros (iDeneb, Kalway, iAtkos). I used iDeneb to install Leopard on my system. Unless someone here can point you to a shorter way of installing without having a prior MacOS installed on your System.
Adobe Bootlegger
Well I was trying to use Leopard then upgrade to Snow, which is what I thought would be best first. Another factor could be is the copy I have might not be that good ether. But I was thinking that just using snow would be faster.
Adobe Bootlegger
Ok I haven't gotten very far with this my Kalyway 10.5.5 version lets me install the OS but when I load the computer the Apple screen pops up like its loading then a circle with a line through it shows up in the middle of the screen. But the loading circle stays there and still moves. My IPC 10.5.6 version when I start to the load the disc in -v mode and gives me the same error every time, I don't remember what is was but when I Googled it, People on other fourms said to swtich from Sata to IDE ether the psychical cables or in the BIOS. I can't do nether Since its a laptop and I looked in the BIOS nothing there. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix my Kalyway version or recommend another version? Adobe Bootlegger
So I tried to use the IDeneb 10.5.7 version. I think its gotten me the closest so far. But when I get the chameleon screen and I type -v -f it load a bunch of stuff but then it says "Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.ApplePS2Controller" also same thing but also says ApplePS2Keyboard, AppleACPIPs2nub. Now this is a laptop I'm really stuck with this keyboard unless I plug in a USB one but I think there is more to the issue anyone have any ideas?
