frogman
I got some of that wine...going. But my issue with "wine" and "X11" or Open office" is the default screen fonts are very thin and on my G4 mac early (2003) model Flat screen tft unit in 1024x768 , million colors, cause the font to shadw in colors. wierd. Is the a way in the X11 sub system to use a bolder screen font. The menu's in Open Office are almost unreadable. I have the lastest xcode installed, 2.3, X11 client from 10.4.4 PPc CD current Mac OSX 10.4.7 with all updates. don't know if Apple sent any X11 client update but anyhow. All so I download that other file to my desktop that you posted on your space. I extracted it to desktop. Created a folder called "tempwine3" what do I do with the contents in that folder. Also wine log reports error at the end of it's extraction! Sorry, I just noticed this. Winetemp3 seems to be gone and that maybe a good thing, it was 7mb where this one is under 1mb. It is just the bare essential .wine this time. I attached it on this post and updated the howto. It is now 'winetempz'. If you have an other .wine folder and want to try this one you still have to manually make the symbolic links. EDIT: I fixed the typo with winetempR which is now 'winetempz' winetempz.zip

johnniecarcinogen
My mac insists that ~/.wine is a non-existent folder. Any ideas? Did you download the 'winetempz' folder, make it your ~/.wine, and put the sym links in it (steps 4 & 5 in the guide)?
Mad Old Mac Addict
Yup. It just insists that said folder doesn't exist and never has. It now agrees that .wine does in fact exist (mid way through the command it seemed to change its mind, telling me that after the fourth line it did), but opens windows applications as documents in word. omgpants
Would it be possible in anyway to obtain a pre-compiled freetype binary? I know they have them for Linux, so maybe for OS X as well. If not I suppose i can let xcode download overnight or something, but that's a big pain.

bmaltais
For the freetype requirement, do yourself a favor and get a binary using "fink". When fink is installed just do: fink install freetype2 Hope this help!
dstall
I had trouble with step 5. I put the Darwine folder in 'applications' I got the 'winetempz.zip' and unzipped it to my desktop, and it unzipped to 2 folders: "winetempz" & "winetempz.1" both of them have the same 6 things in them, I think one is a repeat. I opened up my X11 terminal and it wouldn't let me paste the lines in, so I typed them in, and it said 'no such file or directory' and 'command not found' How do I do this part? Satellite
Umm this thread has been dead for a minute or two, but if anyone is still doing things with wine, I have a macbook running the 10.4.8 tiger and I tried various things as is and none of them work, quiet a few of the people in this post look like they have dealt or are still dealing with the issues, I see no reason why darwine... should not work.... help? goldNDlicious
I can't get Darwine to run anything even using the tempz folder solution the commands provided just get a reply of can't modify directory. PictureThis
This thread needs some revival Yes it's 2007 and Tiger is here: Mac OS X v10.4.8 I followed the tutorial, installed the Xcode tools which came with my MacBook. I did as instructed with the latest Darwin v0.9.12. I downloaded freetype v2.3.1 and executed the code for that package. x11 is installed on my system. Step 4 of the tutorial posed no problem but now I'm stuck at step 5. The first (copy) command seems no problem. The second (link) command "ln -s ~/.wine/drive_c ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:" returns "No such file or directory" where do I go wrong? I'm a bit lost... PictureThis
*Sigh* Yes I have an Intel based MacBook and therefore I should use Wine as can be read here. Just thought I'd share that observation with you Well, enriched with this knowledge I downloaded the latest wine package v0.9.30 and after compiling and installing I decided to give Solitaire a whirl: "wine sol.exe" returns: err:imagelist:ImageList_ReplaceIcon no color!err:imagelist:ImageList_ReplaceIcon no color! err:imagelist:ImageList_ReplaceIcon no color! err:imagelist:ImageList_ReplaceIcon no color! Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly. Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. Make sure that your X server is running and that $DISPLAY is set correctly. Masterhard knows what I'm talking about "wincfg" returns the same result on my MacBook. "echo $DISPLAY" returns ":0.0" which apparently means the program will output its display on the screen I'm looking at. My mac is running X11 v1.1.3. Any experts with more insight/suggestions or should I sit and wait for the next X11/Wine release? Edited February 13, 2007 by PictureThis
