Just got it up on XPS 410. I don't know how different they are, but I'd say installation and everything was smooth using SnowOSX 3.5 Universal.

However, I got into one problem. Can't figure it out. Ethernet... Ohh one more. Sound...

Thanks! iMoshi!

First the ethernet problem. I didn't find the direct solution when I installed 10.5.2 on the 420. But I bought one $11 10/100 NIC from new egg and it's natually supported by OSX.

Second the difference betwen 410 and 420, I will give it a try with SnowOSX 3.5 Universal. Finger crossed.

No go for XPS420 with SnowOSX 3.5 Universal.

Installation completed.

Crashed right after the system boots up.

Installation on xps420 is fine after replace IOATAFamily.kext from the one in this site(search). Could boot into SL w/o any problem, everything seems working fine except video card, I am unable to find any info on this crappy ATI 2400Pro 128MB card. The hack from Leopard won't work. By the way, I use same nework card as Salado does.

Anyone has an idea on the video card issue?

EDIT: I used the 3.5 universal disk as well.

Snow leopard runs fine on my xps 420. There are little quirks (like i can't get about this mac to display correctly without kernel panics) but other than that, I've been using it as my primary OS for about 3 months. The other thing I can't seem to get it to do is boot off the primary hard drive. I made a boot disk out of an old external that i use to get the thing to boot. Otherwise, it works great.

I attached my extra folder. When it comes to the {censored} ATI card, I'm not sure about getting that working. I personally have an 8800 GT in mine.

Hope these help!

(btw, this includes the kext for the built in ethernet. works great!)

Extra.zip

Ive gotten it to install and everything, its just that my HD wasn't getting detected (bad IOATAFamily.kext from Leopard) so now I have to find one for Snow Leopard and I remember coming across one here on the boards somewhere. I was doing a Vanilla install using the DSDT.aml (I think thats what the file is called) from my 10.5.7 install.

Great job! How did you get onboard audio & ethernet to work?

UPDATE:

I got this working with iPC 10.5.6 Mac OS X Install DVD. Here are my settings:

Hard drive on SATA 0

ATI Radeon 3800 Series (Intel)

Intel ICHx SATA

Sigmatel 9227

Intel 82566MM/DC

On first boot: -v -f -x

Everything seems to be working except for audio? Ethernet works great!

UPDATE 2:

Got audio working now too!
