EDIT: I've created a new theroretical guide available here. Please disregard the guide below.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PROVEN GUIDE

This is just what I'm thinking of trying for a triple-boot system. I've just based most of this off of other guides. There may be faults. I am asking for insight as to where these could occur.

I want to make a triple-boot system with 7, Snow, and Ubuntu with the Chameleon BootLoader, and I have a couple questions:

  1. Is there a way to go about partitioning aside from disk utility (like from GParted in the Ubunti LiveCD)?
  2. Is there a way to keep my stuff already on my current Windows drive without reformating (like shrinking the partition with GParted)?
  3. If I have a RECOVERY Partition that cam on my PC, would that complicate things?
  4. How do I go about installing Chameleon?

So far this is what I have planned, although I'm not sure if there would be errors:

  • Run Ubuntu LiveCD - Go to Partition Editor (GParted)
    • Shrink Windows Drive
    • Create ext4 Partition (for Ubuntu)
    • Create unformated partition (for OS X)

[*]Boot OS X Disc (via boot-132)

    • Open installer's disk utility
    • Format mac partition as HFS+ Journaled
    • Install OS X to partition

    [*]Run Ubuntu CD

    • Install to Ext4 Partition
    • Check "Install bootloader"

    [*]Boot into Ubuntu when done

    • Download (attachment) pc_efi_v80 and extract to a folder
    • Drag the "boot_v8" file into a terminal, hit space, and type "/boot" (without quotes), hit enter
      • You can delete the original pc_efi_v80

[*]type "gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst" (without the quotes) and hit enter

[*]Locate the following (Version may not be 8.04):

title Ubuntu 8.04, memtest86+
				root (hd0,4)

  • Take note of the hd (in the above case, "0,4")
  • Scroll to the end of the file and type:

title XXXXXXX
				kernel (hdY,Y)/boot/boot_v8

The "XXXXXXX" is whatever you want the partition to be called, I recommend just "OS X" or "Snow Leopard". The "Y,Y" represents the hd, use the one from before. Make the necessary changes.

  • Save the file

pc_efi_v80.zip

What do you mean by "shrink windows drive"

I have windows 7 in C ,and windows Vista in E. with some data in D.

Which drive shall i shrink??

;) Will above method work for iAtkos_v7 ?

Will above method work for iAtkos_v7 ?

there is no option as HFS+ ,the options available are mac , mac journaled, mac extended and DOS.

What does "Format to HFS+ " mean?

Is it as same as "Erasing to mac journeled".

Iam using iatkos V7 is it different?

Have anyone completed this successfully ?

I have yet to hear of anyone actually attempting a Snow Leopard/7/Ubuntu Triple-Boot yet.

This is not a tested method of installing an OSx86 Triple-Boot.

Shrinking the Partition is a term that means that a user will use certain software to make a partition smaller, keeping the original data, but leaving less extra free room for future files.

HFS+ (Hierarchical File System Plus) is the technical term for the mac filesystem (extended)

i got f9, thanks.

Hi guys , it finally worked on ma system(it has to be) .

this is how i made my system triple boot windows7/ windows Vista/leopard10.5.7(iatkos_v7).

I had windows7 and WinVIsta already installed, and i wanted to install Leopard without erasing the HD.

Hope this one works for you too.

May be, this will help you.i was facing the booting problem.

i assume u want a dualboot/multiboot system.

---------------------------------------------------------

Requirements:

1. windows installation dvd.(to repair boot record)

2)live cd/usb like ubuntu 9.10 or 9.04.(any live cd/usb which have gparted in it).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Procedure:

1)boot with windows Cd to fix boot file damages(if any ) made by previous iatkos installations.(this step can be skipped)

2)prepare a partition min 8GB from your primary partition.(best way of douing is by using gparted.)

3)format it with hfs+(can be done only by using gparted).

4)shift boot flag to this newly made partition.(using gparted in ubuntu). (this step is to be done only if you are not successful without this step, so first try without this step).

5)install iatkos on this newly made partition with ur custom settings.

6)run ubuntu live and change boot flag as it was earlier.

7)boot with windows dvd and reapair using startup repair.

8)shift boot flag to your partition on which osx86/iatkos is installed(using gparted).

and reboot.

Observation:

Got leopard Working. :)

hope this will help you.

gud luk.
