I'm currently trying to make video work; every time I apply a fix, I get what I can only describe as "melting" screen (starts simple blue, then melts purple and finally to another shade of blue).

Hardware:

ThinkPad T60p 8741-C3U (T7600(2.33GHz))

15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5250

The video card id is 71d4

I've tried modifying various examples of the x1600 kexts and always get the same result. Actually, a few have resulted in kernel panics (ATIinject and the ATI???X1000.kext) but when I remove those, I still get the blue screen.

I've reinstalled 5 times trying to get this working and this time I want to learn how to recover without reinstalling.

- Is there a startup option I'm missing? Like booting up in VGA?

- Can I search and replace in Extensions to find the files I modified and restore the changes? I'm no Shell god; can I mix 'find' with 'grep' to locate those Info.plist files that contain 71d4?

- For that matter, is there a startup option to force the os to ignore loading video extensions, or certain extensions?

So, to start, I need help just recovering without a full reinstall. Then I'm asking for help in getting my video driver working.

Same problem for me... T60 with ATI X1900 graphics. If I delete the ATIinject.kext in single user mode, I can get the system to boot in VGA mode. (do a 'mount -o rw /' to make the disk read/write first)

Been playing around and can get it to work -- just the melting screen with either a hard freeze or the system boots up in the background.
