rounak
While installing Leopard from DVD I get the error "still waiting for root device" I know the first thing you would say is there exist topics discussing this issue. I have gone through more than 15 articles from different forums discussing this issue but all of them talk about SATA, IDE , master, slave, some switches l ke -x -v etc etc I have an Intel G33 original motherboard, Intel core 2 duo 2.33, 2 GB Ram (single ram). I have tried all of these combinations for installing Leopard : 1. BIOS setting: SATA as AHCI Hardware used: DVD-RW (IDE) (no other IDE devices, not even a floppy drive) one SATA hard-disk 2. BIOS setting: SATA as IDE Hardware used: DVD-RW (IDE) (no other IDE devices, not even a floppy drive) one SATA hard-disk 3. BIOS setting: IDE harddisk as master Hardware used: DVD-RW (IDE) one IDE harddisk 4. BIOS setting: IDE harddisk as slave Hardware used: DVD-RW (IDE) one IDE harddisk In all the cases, I get the same result: "Still waiting for root device" I have tried all this: 1. kept the hard-disk totally unpartitioned (i.e. raw) 2. partitioned it completely 3. partitoned the first drive I have tried a flat-image install------started it from windows XP on a blank (raw) SATA (& then IDE when it failed) harddisk In all the cases, I get the same result: "Still waiting for root device" I tried most of all this even for Tiger and i get the same result: "Still waiting for root device" Someone plz tell me how long will i have to wait for this "root device"? Will I ever be able to install MacOSX tiger or leopard on my PC? THanks in advance!!! macbrush
It sounds like your DVD installer doesn't support your IDE chipset. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/98488-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-703452 Share on other sites
rounak
It sounds like your DVD installer doesn't support your IDE chipset. do you mean the DVD setup? or do you mean that I should try a different DVD writer and then install the Leopard DVD? rounak
i get the error "Package 0 didn't get an HPET" when i do a flat image install of Leopard. I get the error "Still waiting for root device" when i connect my DVD writer (which is the only IDE device. Both the hard-disks are SATA and there is no floppy drive) and put the Tiger DVD or the Leopard DVD. How can I delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext when I can't even reach the terminal ? also posted here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=74394 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/98488-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-709731 Share on other sites
ezzo
Try the following: the bios: - Upgrade the bios - Keep SATA hard disk as AHCI (never IDE unless for running Windows) - Disable (dual core for the processor) - connect the SATA hard disk to the first SATA socket on the motherboard - note that your (IDE) DVD or hard disks will not be shown after the installation, For a successful installation, you may also try to connect your SATA hard disk to a USB port with (SATA to USB) cable, this worked fine with me. I had this board, unfortunately no sound (ALC888) and no network. Let me know if you have better chance than me.
