afiler
I just preordered an HP 2133 "mini-note". It's priced starting at $499, looking like it's trying to compete with the EeePC. It's got almost everything going for it, like an aluminum case, a 1280x800 display (same as the MacBook), a 120GB hard drive in the $549 and up models, BUT it has a Via C7 processor and Via graphics. It doesn't look like there's any way the C7 is going to work for MacOS, unfortunately. since even though it has SSE3, it looks like it'd require patches like for AMD. Maybe this machine will get someone excited enough to build patches for this processor, but until then, it looks like Linux for me. jopari13
...I thought AMD processors were supported? Or is there something about the Via C7 specifically that would prevent something like Leo4All from working? I was planning on getting an HP 2133 with the hope of making it a hackintosh--it's the closest to an Apple subnotebook that we'll get, I'm afraid. [Edit: Well obviously there would have to be new graphics drivers written, but shouldn't the processor itself be supported?] Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/98368-hp-2133-umpc/#findComment-703954 Share on other sites
outZider
[Edit: Well obviously there would have to be new graphics drivers written, but shouldn't the processor itself be supported?] Video drivers are easier said than done. There is absolutely no documentation on writing video drivers for OS X.
