The latest NVInstaller includes the kexts from the MacBook Pro, which uses an Nvidia 8600M GT. I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that uses the same card. Why can't i just use the MacBook Pro kexts for full 1280x800 resolution with full hardware acceleration and what not? Could I, in theory, get this to work?

In theory, you can. In reality, the kernel doesn't know where to load the kext binary. That's the problem. Now (meaning after Graphics Update v1.0) I believe it's possible to tell the kernel this location for kext loading using EFI string. Surely there are EFI strings 8600 for non-mobile cards. You may want to study them.
