Hi All,

A few weeks ago, I found http://dailyapps.net/2008/03/hack-attack-d...-windows-vista/ which described to me how to get leopard working on my laptop. Last night, I had treid it, and upon boot of the iATKOS v1.0i DVD, afgter pressing F8 and typing in "-v" I get a message saying

System config file '/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found

And the installation atempt halts at this point.

I am running an AMD machine, and am trying to install Leopard on a hard drive that is independent of the one Vista is installed on.

I had burned the iATKOS DVD on my DVD burner's slowest setting, and the same message pops up.

What is the error here, and how do I fix it?

Thanks

Okay com.apple.Boot.plist is probably one of the most important files in Leopard, it tells the computer how to boot up. You could try to install another OS on a different partition and use a program, say MacDrive, to explore the drive and find a download of a clean com.apple.Boot.plist and put it in /System/Library/SystemConfiguration.

First off, did you apply the AMD patch for iatkos? there was a link on the hack attack page for that. iatkos was designed for intel only. You will need the original ISO, the ppf patch file for AMD, and a patch program to complete it. I did not use this install so that is all I can say.

Secondly, did you search the forum for the error message listed above? I suspect LOTS of people get that message (I know I have many times). I've noticed that clicking on search options and listing by post instead of topic gets me the posts I need in the really long threads. Folks don't like answering the same question four times ;).

If you are running an AMD capable install disk (properly patched etc.), this is the trick that worked for me (courtesy of alpha2zulu00), on my HP dv8000 laptop. When the machine is POSTing and the screen says "press ESC to change the boot order", hit ESC. You should get a menu listing the hard drive and CDROM. Wait for ten seconds, select CDROM, and hit enter. Hopefully Darwin will start booting up.

On my machine I hit F8 for boot options and entered "platform=x86pc -legacy -v".

I have noticed that it is not necessary to wait for ten seconds, it will boot on my machine simply by entering the boot menu. Even after an install to the hard drive, OS X/Darwin does not seem to like to boot directly, I do not know why. The ESC technique works in this case as well, and I've had some success using the Vista bootloader.
