I tried the 10.4.3 install and used it for a while, but some of my hardware did not work and prevented me from really using it:

* ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Mobile <<-- This is by far the most annoying problem, it won't go beyond 1280x1024, making the computer essentially useless as text is unreadable on the lcd (there is also a common problem with the mouse cursor, but the resolution problem is far far worse)

* ipw 2100 (WLAN), annoying too but I could probably buy a USB adapter instead

* power management / battery support, not that much of a problem but sometimes the computer just dies because it didn't know how much battery that was left

* suspend to ram, would be nice indeed, since it's a laptop. But osx boots really fast, compared to xp.

Anyway, my question to all of you that have tried is: Does 10.4.4 solve ANY of the above? Especially the ATI issue, but any small improvement would be nice to know of. After all, it's a lot of work getting the update in and resolving all the little problems that is sure to follow. I want to know if it's worth it...

I just tried 10.4.4 Maxxuss's way and the answer is NO (in bold).

PS I even had to copy my AppleVIAATA.kext (SATA) and IONetworkingFamily.kext (cheap realtek nic!) along with PS/2 mouse and keyboard support kext from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4 to get things to work.

Ammm, come on Apple is not going to get your HARDWARE supporpted. It's has it's own.
