amb7247
I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe. But I have alot of questions that will hopefully clear things up for me. Ok, I used the Kalyway 10.5.1 install disc and sintalled via MBR Boot on my IDE 100Gig hard drive. My other drive is an S-ATA 750Gig which vista is installed on. I use the F8 on startup to switch between the OS of my choice. After installing and choosing the vanilla kernel, I also chose MBR boot, ACHI fix and the ASUS DH audio and then I install OSX. When I get into OSX at this point I have my cable plugged into one of my gigabit ports in the back. Now at this point I'm a little stuck from what I'm reading on here because I have yet to get it to work. There is an option to chose from cable, DSL, or lan option. I'm connected to a router which is connected to a cable modem. So because I'm not on a direct connection. I choose LAN. I did not chose wireless install since I do not use it. I skip registration and boot to the main scren with the dock at the bottom and my drives on the right hand side. Now is my network supposed to be automatically working. The 1st time I accidentally chose wireless and the lan connection didn't work. so I reinstalled chose not connected to a network and plugged my cable in since I took it out during the install and chose the IONETWORKFamily.kext. I used the kext program in there that was included to install this file but and rebooted, still no network working. I'm gonna try to install one more time and this time chose no wireless and connected via lan. If this doesn't work then I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. oh by the way, does it matter which port my ethernet cable is plugged into and should I have my cable plugged in during the install? amb7247
ok guys I got it Here is what I did. I did a new installation and chose all the other options I chose before. When I got into OSX, I had IONetworkFamily.kext which is a 3.7MB file linked on this forum. There is a thread that points to those that have the ASUS P5W DH board. I installed this file via Kext Helper b7 since I'm a newb to OSX. Before you enter your password then hitting easy install, there is a button on the bottom that says to run script. WHat I did here was to let the program run a chmod 755 in the extensitons folder on all *.kext files. Then I hit the easy install. Then after that I deleted the Extentions.mkext in systems/library folder. Empty the trash. After this the Extenstions.mkext file came back after it was rebuilt with the new IONetworkFamily.kext. After this I rebooted. Now it didn't work off the bat via dhcp. so I went into the network section and there were now two network cards since there are two on my board. One is eth0 and other is eth1. my cable is inserted into eth0. I chose dhcp with manual. I entered my internal IP address and entered my two DNS server ip addresses. These two are separated by a comma. Then I ran a network diagnostic and all lights went green and I was online without another reboot. Hope this helps some.
